When it was declared that Bush had won yet another victory after Dan Rather was forced to resign from the spotlight at CBS…it had became as clear as daylight to many that we are living in a new era of McCarthyism. When so many political talk show hosts declared that Rather’s “resignation” was a “victory” for the Bush administration…I, myself, had to raise the question that so many others may have asked…what is the price of justice in our heavily corporate controlled media?
For those in doubt of my question, depending on your own bias…it must be remembered that a true democracy is subject to debate. When the system of government that is in control restricts a free-press on the voice of all Americans…we are no longer a democracy, but a dictatorship. Yes, Bush and his victory means this: he has gained the ABSOLUTE power of authority. Whether you stand on the left or on the right of the current issues…this so-called victory of Bush’s should concern you, if not entirely scare you. Why? Because of the simple fact that whether or not you may agree or disagree with the policies of the current system in control…your voice WILL NOT MATTER! When the media is central to only one view point…then America democracy as we once knew it has shaken hands with a new system of government, better known as fascism.
WHY BLAME DAN RATHER for his “flawed” news coverage? You should ask yourself this when scratching your head over whether or not Bush should have invaded Iraq after he declared a year later that he had bad intelligence…come on…we already knew that! But, remember this…if you can forgive Bush for his “intelligence” issue…why not do the same for Rather? His sources pointed to Bush’s former Guard official, Bill Burkett, who had provided “false” copies of Bush’s records in his fulfillment in serving for the national guard, credited as source of Rather’s coverage. Bad intell?
Before disregarding me as another liberal crybaby, ask yourself this…why hasn’t America seen the real records of Bush’s service in the National Guards? Are they hidden in the pile of “weapons of mass destruction” that our troops are currently fighting for? Where are they? Perhaps in 2008 we’ll find out.
