Here are three actions you can take now!
1) Recruit sponsors for HB 910 – Amya’s Law
The Columbus chapter of Moms Demand Action is asking for our help in recruiting members of the House Ways and Means Committee to agree to be co-sponsors of HB 910. The Moms chapter has taken Amya’s family under their wing, and Amya’s grandmother has been contacting Ways and Means Committee members, as well as all 99 House reps every day since the December shooting. Now we need more support from legislators for this bill so it can move forward and become law!
Here are the details about the bill:
HB 901 – Enact Amya’s Law for Child Access Prevention

Also see this article: https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/05/15/ohio-democratic-lawmaker-wants-gun-owners-to-store-firearms-out-of-reach-of-children/. Darnell Brewer (614-466-1414; rep22@ohiohouse.gov) is the primary sponsor. The bill would provide for the safe storage of firearms, to authorize a nonrefundable income tax credit for the purchase of secure storage and safety devices, and to exempt such devices from sales and use tax. It was introduced in the House on 5/12/26, and was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.

Sample call script:
Hello – My name is [your name]. I’m calling from [your address] to ask [Representative___] to co-sponsor House Bill 901. This bill would require the secure storage of firearms, and would authorize a nonrefundable income tax credit for people who buy secure storage and safety devices. It would also exempt these devices from sales and use tax.
House Bill 901, also known as Amya’s Law, was named for Amya, an 11-year-old from Columbus. While Amya was on a play date at her 14-year-old cousin’s house, her cousin found an unsecured firearm on the refrigerator and unintentionally shot Amya in the head.
Such shootings are both predictable and preventable, and we must commit to doing what we can to keep children safe and alive.
I hope [Rep. ____] will consider co-sponsoring HB 901. If interested in becoming a co-sponsor, the representative should contact Michelle, a Moms Demand Action volunteer, at 678-644-5430. Thanks for your consideration.

The bill would enact the Freedom to Carry Act to rename a concealed handgun license a concealed weapons license. It would also allow a concealed weapons licensee to carry a concealed deadly weapon other than an exclusive deadly weapon, and would allow the possession or transportation of a loaded firearm while in a motor vehicle or vessel.
