An expert in propaganda and military-grade psyops that were proven on the battle-field, but used in Trump's election and Brexit. Dr. Emma Briant is an Associate Researcher at Bard College, New York. Academic, Author, Analyst, Journalist, and Research Consultant.
Formerly: Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Journalism, University of Essex and Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Journalism Studies at University of Sheffield. Dr. Briant is a sociologist/political scientist specializing in research on media, political communication, and propaganda particularly in relation to international conflicts, social issues (like migration), and inequality debates.
A central thread of her research considers how the contemporary (socio-political, economic and technological) development of systems of propaganda by state, corporate, and other non-governmental actors raises challenges for democracy; and in whose interests they are resolved or managed. She examines, for example; the ethics, norms, subcultures and uses/abuses of power in relation to emergent practice in propaganda within and by democracies.
