On Friday June 12, 2026, 24 foursome teams will compete against one another at Eta Nu Nu’s Swing for Scholars Golf Invitational at Champions Golf Course located at 3900 Westerville Road in Columbus, Ohio. Retired Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force Kaleth Wright is the event’s honorary chairman. Registration and breakfast begin at 7:30 am with an official start time exactly one hour later.
The day promises to be fun filled as golfers vie for the 1st place prize and bragging rights for this year’s tournament. Swings for Scholars is one of several Eta Nu Nu events that occur annually. It attracts golfers of all skill levels and walks of life. Onlookers will find the young, the older as well as those considered senior citizens traipsing the 208.473-acre golf course. Most will elect to get around on the golf carts while a few (very few) may choose to bravely navigate the 18 holes on foot. Competition is keen, yet there is a larger purpose that is not lost on the men of the Eta Nu Nu chapter of the illustrious Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the tournament’s participants.
Swing for Scholars is part of Eta Nu Nu’s efforts to provide resources to those most in need especially in the field of education. Because scholarship is one of the fraternity’s four cardinal principles, the men of Eta Nu Nu relish the opportunity to put people, both the young and adults in a position to uplift themselves via education.
In the words of Arthur Fletcher “a mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Adopted by the United Negro College fund in 1972, the slogan was coined to spotlight the significance of a college education and to emphasize just how much potential is lost when young, smart, intellectually curious and capable youth are denied access to a college education because of financial barriers. Thus, while the golf tournament may appear just to be about physical activity, fun and games, competition and sportsmanship it is one of Eta Nu Nu’s fundraising apparatuses that supports a range of activities. The beneficiaries of the chapter’s largesse range from college bound high school seniors to youth in the performing arts ranging in grades from the 7th to the 12th. Monies raised from the event also help support programs at designated Columbus city elementary schools as well as teachers in their effort to provide the kind of instruction, mentoring and environment that are necessary for young people to thrive.
One of the unique features of this event is the way Eta Nu Nu showcases young people during the awards ceremony. From youth musical performances in the past to the much-anticipated electric dance performance from the chapter’s three Dance E.L.I.T.E. Performance Academy dance merit scholars and awarding our Last Chance Scholarship, Eta Nu Nu takes every opportunity to support young people.
