Nicholas Kusnetz writes about accountability and corruption in state government and runs the Center's State Integrity Investigation, which was a 2013 finalist for Harvard's Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting. His stories have examined state lawmakers who moonlight as lobbyists, the influence of oil companies in North Dakota and the nationwide debate over arming school staff. Several pieces detailed how corporate interests have sought to influence national policy through the states, including a shadowy push by insurance agents and brokers to pass state laws that restricted federal health care reform. Before joining the Center, Kusnetz was a Reporting Fellow at ProPublica, where he covered fracking. He's written about energy, the environment and politics for Bloomberg Businessweek, The Nation, High Country News and other publications. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism.
