Help End Wage Theft. Fight Back. Empower Workers to Hold Employers Accountable
Thursday, Nov 9, 6-8pm
First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 West Weisheimer Rd.
Casual discussions in the summer of 2012 evolved into a fun and successful fundraiser the following November. In April 2013, Columbus CoR member groups voted to hold this event annually and are now preparing for the 7th such event.
This year, the event features a spaghetti dinner, bake sale, silent auction, raffle and entertainment to raise money and collect food donations for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus at 93 West Weisheimer Road in Clintonville. Adult dinner $10, $5 for kids 14 and under (cash/check).
Wednesday, November 7, 4-7pm, Ohio Statehouse
The Trump-Pence administration is attempting to legally redefine gender on a narrowly “sex”-based male-female basis that would gut enforcement of existing civil rights protections for over 1.4 million transgender Americans. Additionally, since this memo was put out, Trump’s Department of Justice has said that transgender workers are not protected by civil rights laws [https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/transgender-workers-not-protected-civil-rights-law-doj-tells-supreme-n924491].
This proposal is a dangerous and harmful one that essentially attempts to erase the transgender community. We intend to assemble peacefully at the Ohio Statehouse with the goal of sending the message that the trans community and our allies will not stand for it.
Bring signs! Be loud! But please, keep it nonviolent.
Monday, November 5, 2018, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
Sunday, November 4, 4pm, Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1235 Northwest Blvd.
The Neighborhood Services, Inc. Food Pantry is excited to present its annual Church Choir Concert Fundraiser! Featuring the combined talented vocals of several Columbus-area churches, join us for an afternoon of music and community as we come together to the blessings of the Thanksgiving season.
This event is free or pay-what-you-wish so please join us in choral jubilation!
Neighborhood Services, Inc. (NSI) had been founded in 1965 by churches in the University District in response to the growing needs of nearby neighbors. From its humble beginnings, NSI has grown into one of the largest hunger assistance service providers in Columbus, Ohio. NSI primarily serves working low-income families and individuals, unemployed individuals and their families, and single heads of household with young, dependent children in the Columbus community.
Hosted by Boulevard Presbyterian Church and the Neighborhood Services, Inc. food pantry.
Friday, November 2, 7:30pm, King Ave. United Methodist Church, 299 King Ave.
Civil Rights Sit-Ins. Bell-Bottoms. Anti-War Marches. Student Power. Afros. Mini-Skirts. Hippies. Riots. Space Flights. The Generation Gap.
Those hallmarks of the turbulent 1960s will be rekindled on Friday, November 2 at this year’s annual “Spirit of the ‘60’s Coffeehouse.”
Bill Cohen will lead a candle-lit, musical, year-by-year journey through that era, with familiar 1960s folksongs, “news reports” of sixties happenings, displays of anti-war buttons and posters, and far-out sixties fashions.
Plus, Bill will also challenge the audience with sixties trivia questions.
Proceeds from the suggested $10 donation (at the door) will go to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Refreshments will be available at no additional charge. Free parking will be available on the streets and in the lots just south and west of the church.
The show begins at 7:30pm in the church basement but get there early for a good seat.
This program is suitable for adults and mature teens.

Corner of South Ogden Avenue and Whitehead Road
We want to support our neighborhood children and keep them safe on Halloween night so SC Hilltop neighborhood is hosting it's sixth annual Trick or Treat Corner, Wednesday, October 31st from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the corner of South Ogden Ave. and Whitehead Road (around 682 S. Ogden Ave).
Please bring a chair (if you would rather sit) and a bowl of treats to share with the kiddos. We want to make sure they receive tons of candy as many years very few neighbors turned on their lights and opened their doors to giving.
Massey's Pizza on Sullivant Avenue is once again sponsoring subs to hand out to the kids as Trick or Treat falls at the end of the month and some families are pretty low on food.
Feel free to come dressed in costume and join in the FUN!.
Let's make wonderful Trick or Treat memories for the children and build community while we're at it.
