ComFest Wants You!

ComFest is just a few weeks away (June 23-25), and volunteers are needed! The festival is and has always been operated tip to toe by volunteers from the community rather than by paid staff. Organizers volunteer their time throughout the year to plan the event; musicians and artists volunteer their talent; community leaders and activists volunteer their expertise to lead workshops; and citizens volunteer a few hours of time during the event to make it all run smoothly.

Indivisible is a grassroots organization that resists the Trump agenda by targeting our federal members of Congress. If you live in Ohio District 3 (Joyce Beatty’s District), or even if you don’t, and you want to get involved, join us! We focus much of our activisim on Senator Portman. At this meeting, we’ll talk about our wins in Trump’s first 100 days and what our plans are moving forward. We also will have an update on the Fair Districts Fair Elections anti gerrymandering campaign and a presentation on how members can use FB and Twitter to support the resistance!

"WHY WE’RE MARCHING: There is no denying it: Donald Trump’s election is a threat to the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families.

This new administration is attacking the hard-won protections of our climate, health, and communities, and the rights of people of color, workers, indigenous people, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA, young people, and more.

If the policies he proposed on the campaign trail are implemented, they will destroy our climate, decimate our jobs and livelihoods, and undermine the civil rights and liberties won in many hard fought battles.

It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.

As we approach the Day Without an Immigrant nationwide series of protests scheduled for International Workers' Day on May 1, taking the time to learn about the long and rich history of labor struggles in this country -- and the radical origins of May Day -- has become especially important. 
Join us for our next monthly study group as we read and discuss "Subterranean Fire: A History of Working Class Radicalism in the United States" by Sharon Smith. By situating the ongoing decline of the labor movement in this country's larger history of working class struggle, Smith argues for a perspective of rank-and-file unionism that remains vital today. 
Copies of the book are available through ISO Columbus.

Dennis Kucinich will have a Press Conference about the issue of the impact of the Charter Schools Movement and other privatization schemes on Public Education and Ohio Taxpayers at the Statehouse Women’s Gallery on Monday, April 24, at 10:00 AM. Please come and support former Cleveland mayor and former presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich as he exposes the corruption behind the charter schools. 

Tuesday night, April 25, 6:30 PM - there will be a Columbus: Town Hall Meeting at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd. Dennis Kucinich will talk there about  large privately-owned for-profit corporations lobby their way into the educational system, donate vast sums to legislators, get themselves classified as "Public Schools" and operate, in many cases, without accountability and oversight.

The Open Shelter, an Advocacy & Day Services Center for the homeless & marginally housed, is proud to announce that a fundraiser on our behalf will be held at The Crazee Mule Pub & Grill on Sunday, April 23rd from 1pm until 8pm.
Three bands will generously donate their time & perform at the event. The bands are Coffee House Rebels www.briangriffin.net, Acoustic Reflections & One Notch Down www.facebook.com/One-Notch-Down-Music who will be premiering their new song, “Homelessland”.
