When we think of loving deeply, we think of expanding that love to all self-aware earthlings. When we think critically, we think of the consequences of our actions not just on ourselves but also on all other individuals (human and non-human) who share our world. When we think of living responsibly, it means that we live consistently with universal values in every aspect of our lives and the desire for freedom from violence and oppression for all innocent individuals, equally.
Once you have embraced the decision to live with integrity in behavioral consistency for respecting all living beings, your next step is to connect with people who have been living vegan and can show you how:
Join the Columbus Vegan Meetup
Attend events that connect you to the people and places that empower vegan living
Educate yourself on equivalent vegan alternative options: food, clothes, entertainment, medicines, rescues vs. pet stores etc. Many of these resources are found on veganshift.org.

An Australian documentary exposing the dark underbelly of modern animal agriculture through drones, hidden and handheld cameras, the feature-length film explores the morality and validity of our dominion over the animal kingdom. The documentary presents an uncompromising, damning exploration of the various ways animals are used and abused by humans, particularly in the meat, dairy, egg, clothing and entertainment industries.
Filmed in Australia, ‘Dominion’ combines footage from handheld, hidden, and aerial drone cameras, much of it never seen before, to convey both the terrifying scale of an empire built on secrecy – and the individual stories of its victims.
Focusing on the legal, industry-standard practices that occur all over the world, the film questions the morality and validity of humankind’s dominion over the animal kingdom, advocating not for minor improvements to their welfare but for a deeper conversation about our right to exploit those we deem inferior to ourselves.

One way to start your vegan journey is to eat like a vegan one day a week. That way you get a chance to taste some delicious meat-free dishes without the stress of going vegan cold turkey, to turn a phrase. As you slowly move away from animal products in your diet, you’ll discover you may find you don’t need meat, dairy, and eggs to satisfy your hunger.
Contrary to many people’s belief that eating meat makes you strong and powerful, think about the mammals who are vegan every day of the week. The top ten vegan animals, as listed by “Vegan Souls” are:
Elephant
Rhinoceros
Hippopotamus
Bison
Wildebeest
Horse
Manatee
Some whales
Deer
Yak
Passport 196 just launched in October 2017 in Upper Arlington on the corner of Fishinger and Riverside Drive (33). They serve an assortment of Caribbean fusion food with jerk seasonings. Azariyah Aiyetoro, the brother of Passport 196’s founder John Hudson, who manages the restaurant, recently made a vegan shift in consciousness and wanted to offer a more robust, full-service (appetizer to dessert) vegan menu in addition to their current conventional menu. These are exciting times for our Vegan Options Daily campaign as they consulted VeganShift.org’s concierge on the local market gaps and decided to include a vegan fishless (Gardein) sandwich, in addition to the grilled chickless (Gardien) sandwich, and vegan burger (Beyond Meat).

Whit’s Frozen Custard in Clintonville just entered the vegan non-dairy frozen dessert market this spring to the excitement across Columbus of vegans and those who are allergic, lactose intolerant or otherwise need to avoid dairy products. At this time, the Clintonville Whit’s offers one option: coconut-based vanilla. (Note: not all Whit’s locations are on board yet, so call ahead, verify, and ask them to carry it at their location near you if they don’t already have it.)
Whit’s also carries flax milk for those who enjoy shakes. The cool thing about Whit’s is that you can make their frozen dessert into whatever wondrous variety your taste buds are inspired to create. They have a fantastic assortment of fruits and berries as well as staples like peanut butter and Oreo-style cookies that are vegan.
Berry Vegan Delights is a local vegan chocolatier startup that launched in January 2018. Founder, Jonna Owens, offers gourmet, artisan, chocolate covered strawberries to those seeking a chocolate decadent treat in white, semi-sweet and dark chocolates. What a creative and exciting addition to the Columbus market for vegan dessert options! These are great gifts for all types of occasions and would be a great addition to any restaurant or hospitality group to offer their guests interested in vegan options. You can find her at various vegan pop-ups events or order online.
