Duty to Warn
Every day presents infinite reasons to believe that change can't happen,
infinite reasons to give up. But I always tell myself, "Sonya, you have to
pick your team." It seems to me that there are two teams in this world. And
you can find evidence to support the arguments of both. The trademark of one
team is cynicism. They'll tell you why what you're doing doesn't matter, why
nothing is going to change, why no matter how hard you work, you're going to
fail. They seem to get satisfaction out of explaining how we'll always have
injustice. You can't change human nature, they say. It's foolish to try.
From their experience, they might be right.
San Francisco, CA -- Eric Rudolph killed people. Tom Delay killed bugs.
Eric Rudolph bombed the Atlanta Olympics to attack a federal government he didn’t like. Tom Delay wants to bomb the federal bench, to take out judges whose views he dislikes.
Eric Rudolph bombed gay bars because he hates homosexuals. Delay, George W. Bush and other Republicans want to bomb the Constitution because they fear gay marriage.
Eric Rudolph bombed abortion clinics, killing and maiming people because he believed in life. Tom Delay, Jeb Bush, the president and yes, the Pope’s global pro-life point man, Frank Pavone, egged on the Operation Rescue crowd outside Terri Schaivo’s hospice.
The real soul of the Republican Party is not the president bowing before the papal coffin. It is the outlaw Eric Rudolph, who hated gays, the government and abortion doctors.

Summary: Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney adressed the closing of the National Election Reform Conference Saturday, April 9th in Nashville. Congresswoman McKinney is the first black female elected to Congress from the state of Georgia. Elected in 1992, she served five consecutive terms. In 2002 she was the subject of an intense campaign by the Republicans to run her out of office for questions she asked about Bush Administration knowledge of events surrounding September 11th. After a two year hiatus she returned to the public arena and successfully regained her seat. She addressed the National Conference on Election Reform regarding the historical suppression of the black vote and modern attempts at gerrymandering and voter suppression.
St. Louis – A national veterans’ organization today called for the removal of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney for crimes committed during the invasion and occupation of Iraq.
In a letter sent to each member of the U.S. House and Senate, Veterans For Peace (VFP) stated that “...This administration’s war on Iraq, in addition to being increasingly unpopular among Americans, is an unmistakable violation of our Constitution and federal law which you have sworn to uphold. In our system, the remedy for such high crimes is clear: this administration must be impeached.”
To read the letter to Congress, and the U.S. and international laws the administration has violated, please follow this link: http://www.veteransforpeace.org/impeachment/impeachment.htm.

Recently, someone using the alias of "Pickle" posted an anonymous opinion on my blog, Thomas Paine's Corner, at http://civillibertarian.blogspot.com/. In response to my essay entitled Cauldron of Bigotry, in which I attacked the Christian conservatives and Evangelicals for their continued campaign of hatred and bigotry against gays, "Pickle" wrote:
"I don't see how you're going to get anywhere, saying things in the way you've said them. You've accused others of being bigots, but you come across as being more of a bigot than many of your opponents."
"Pickle", thank you for your commentary. My blog is about the advancement of civil liberties and intellectual freedom, and I welcome virtually all opinions. After pondering "Pickles"'s assertion briefly, I decided to look up the definition of bigot. Here is what I found at http://www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/b/b0242400.html:

While George W. Bush tries to panic Americans by predicting a Social Security crisis in 2048, the Green Party of the United States reminds the country that we’re sitting on a “time bomb” just ten years down the road with global warming.
Green Party leaders are pointing to the recent study by the International Climate Change Task Force. The report, which is posted at the web site of the Center for American Progress www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=bi JRJ8OVF&b=306503, warns that global warming may reach a ‘point of no return’ in ten years when the global average temperature moves beyond 2¡C (3.6¡F) above the pre-industrial level, with severe environmental, food supply, and public health consequences around the world.
The Task Force was convened by the Institute for Public Policy Research in the U.K., the Center for American Progress in the U.S., and the Australia Institute. The report makes ten recommendations for G8 nations to take the lead on curbing global warming.

Recruiters have to be brave in order to keep working. They have to make dozens of calls every night to high school students at home. They are in essence nothing more than super aggressive sales people trying to sign young people up to a life of killing and violence.
Surveys show that fear of death is a powerful motivator that keeps those same students out of the military, even with the bribes of college tuition, sign up “bonuses” and the supposed benefits of “honor”, medals and more.
One survey shows that those fears doubled from the year 2000 to 2004, despite assurances from the administration that the war in Iraq is good for everyone. What is war worth if it means getting killed, especially when that war was based on lies and deception, (as most wars are)?
The military faces a huge problem because they base their fundamental strategy on an all volunteer force. Recruiting volunteers is a policy that has been in place since 1973, when the draft was eliminated.

Editor's Note: Kevin Martin was appointed as FCC Chair yesterday, March 16.
We sure have our priorities right in this country of ours. According to my daily habit, I flipped on the TV after an early lunch at about 11:45 this morning, E.S.T. Thought I’d check on the latest developments in Iraq, Lebanon, and Capitol Hill. I started with CNN, then flipped over to Fox, then MSNBC.
None of three had anything to say about international or domestic affairs. All were maintaining a breathless vigil outside a courtroom in Santa Maria, California, because Michael Jackson, whose name is somehow still preceded by the adjective “superstar,” had decided to stop at a hospital en route to his trial for child molestation. It seems the single-gloved wonder was suffering back pains that had required emergency treatment; unfortunately, he didn’t have permission from the court to show up late.

President Bush recently nominated Stephen L. Johnson, a 24-year veteran of the Environmental Protection Agency, to be the agency’s new administrator. Mr. Johnson has been the acting administrator since January, and prior to that oversaw the EPA office handling pesticides and other toxic substances. In nominating Johnson, Mr. Bush described him as “a talented scientist” and having “good judgment and complete integrity.”
Yet his record as the Assistant Administrator for Toxic Substances casts serious doubt on whether he is suited to lead the E.P.A., an agency directly affecting Americans’ health and many significant industries, including automobiles and agriculture. During President Bush’s first term, Johnson was a strong supporter of pesticide testing on humans.
