Several anti-LGBTQ+ laws have gone into place over the past two years that impact students, teachers, and school communities. These laws, HB 8—Ohio's Don't Say Gay bill and SB 104—the school trans bathroom ban bill, require all 611 school districts to create and implement new policies, but there is little transparency around how those policies are being enforced or how they are affecting students, educators, and families across different communities.
Honesty’s LGBTQ+ Coalition is hosting a listening session in Columbus from 6:30 – 8pm EDT to better understand these impacts. We want to hear directly from those affected: How are these laws showing up in school buildings and beyond? Are districts over complying in ways that harm LGBTQ+ individuals? What challenges are showing up? Your voice will help inform advocacy efforts aimed at protecting the health, safety, and well-being of LGBTQ+ students and educators across Ohio. This conversation will also help equip community members with tools and information to advocate for themselves and others.
