Please join The Ohio State University College of Social Work, the Wexner Medical Center and interdisciplinary partners as we mark the 50th anniversary of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. We will bring together national and local experts to review the current and future status of healthcare in the United States.

We welcome Senator Tom Daschle, one of the country’s most respected and influential voices regarding healthcare reform in the country, and Barbara Edwards, former Director of Disabled and Elderly Health Programs Group at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

PFLAG Columbus is a local chapter of PFLAG National. “PFLAG” is Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians And Gays. We are a national support, education and advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, their families, friends and allies. With 200,000 members and supporters and local affiliates in more than 500 communities across the U.S. and abroad, PFLAG is the largest grassroots-based family organization of its kind. PFLAG is a non-profit organization and is not affiliated with any religious or political institution.

The monthly meeting of the local affiliate of the national Move to Amend organization that is calling for a U.S. Constitutional amendment to reverse several U.S. Supreme Court decisions during the past century and thereby to firmly establish that corporations are not people and that money is not free speech. Special Program: The CWA Campaign to Stop the Trans Pacific Partnership and Fast Track Authority. Communications Workers of America [CWA] organizer Tom Lee will explain the problems with the TPP [the Trans-Pacific Partnership] and the CWA campaign. Simone Morgen will discuss the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). These agreements are designed to put control of the global economy directly in the hands of the multinational corporations.

Topic: “Women’s Equality in the Catholic Church” with Roy Bourgeois, founder of School of the Americans Watch. Roy continues to be a tireless advocate for the equality of women in the Church despite being severely punished by the Vatican for speaking his conscience. This talk is part of the “Justice In The Catholic Church Series” of talks with prominent Roman Catholic priests.
