Meeting

Join the OSU Center for Ethnic Studies for a teach-in webinar about ICE to learn about our rights and actions we can take as a community.

With César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández, Gregory H. Williams Chair in Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at the OSU Moritz College of Law and Emily Brown, Assistant Clinical Professor (OSU College of Law) and Director of the Moritz Immigration Clinic.

This event is free, open to the public and welcoming to everyone.

Knowledge is Power is an inclusive and accessible group of progressive learners who are working to educate ourselves about the issues facing us today. From Central Ohio politics to climate change, we are arming ourselves with knowledge to actively work to better our world.

YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US! We meet monthly in Central Ohio to discuss a topic chosen by the group members. We offer multiple ways to access materials for each topic, from books and articles to podcasts and documentaries– because everyone learns best in different ways!

On Saturday, federal agents horrifically shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse who cared for veterans, in the Eat Street neighborhood of south Minneapolis after brutally beating him in front of witnesses.

Enough is enough. Exercising our Constitutional right to document and record ICE and other federal agents is more important than ever.
This call will give you the tools to exercise your rights in a moment when federal agents are terrorizing our communities and using excessive force.

The MAGA regime is escalating violence and lawlessness through ICE abductions and killings, international aggression, and open defiance of Congress, including the refusal to release the Epstein files.

Our movement must get stronger together to meet this moment. Join us for a national Action Training — a coordinated and interactive training to establish what Nonviolent Direct Action means and looks like in practice, then build the skills we need right now, including:

1:30-1:40   WELCOME: Cleveland Heights for Immigrant Rights, Jamie Hickner, Member, & Teach-In Coordinator, CH4IR

1:40-2:00   KEYNOTE ADDRESS: Reviewing a Year of Trump’s Immigration Policies, C Stonebraker Martinez, Co-Director, Interreligious Task Force on Central America and Colombia

2:00-3:00   LEGAL PANEL: Detentions, Deportations, & the Law, Lynn Tramonte, Executive Director, Ohio Immigrant Alliance

Immigration, Due Process, & Justice: Why Legal Representation is Key, Mike Corradini, Deputy Chief of Programs at Acacia Center for Justice

Join this 90-minute training from States at the Core on effectively protecting your neighbors from federal enforcement incursions.

After the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, we are angry and won’t be silenced. Enough is enough. We need to double down on our non-violent tactics, documenting the deadly authoritarianism on our streets. Everyone has a role in this moment.

Featuring movement leaders Eric K. Ward, and organizers Jill Garvey and Gabe Gonzalez for an ICE Watch training and conversation about how to show up for our communities.

TOWN HALL MEETING SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2026.

THE CHANGING HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT

The Voices for Social Justice group at Overbrook Presbyterian Church, 4131 N High Street, are sponsoring an educational program for members and the larger community about the changing healthcare environment. The event will be held at Overbrook at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Aeleka Schortman will help us understand the consequences of defunding USAID.

When Trump and Musk destroyed USAID, they did much more than slaughter poor people by withdrawing life sustaining foreign aid. Aeleka’s dissertation research shows that they literally de-funded the whole world's supply of food and industrial crops by undermining agro-food lending programs around the world. She will explain how and why this is the case, and will solicit feedback from us on how she might improve or fine-tune her message and deliver it to the public.
