Meeting

Monday, September 23, 7-9pm, Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Ave.

Imprisoning a Generation is a documentary film following the stories of four young Palestinians who have been detained and imprisoned under the Israeli military and political systems. Their perspectives, along with the voices of their families, combine to form a lens into the entangled structures of oppression that expand well beyond the prison walls. Discussion on what we can do will follow the screening.

Wednesday, September 25, 9am-3pm, Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square, 75 E. State St.

Ohio S.B. 33 is a bill that criminalizes dissent. It is an attempt by the Gas and Oil Industry to intimidate the people of Ohio from exercising their right to disagree with government policies. The policies in question have been written by industry lobbyists and heavily influenced by corporate campaign contributions and dark money.

Tuesday, September 17, 6-8pm, Columbus Metropolitan Library [Main Branch], 96 S. Grant Ave.

Join us to get updates on local environmental issues, take simple actions to support Ohio’s transition to a renewable energy future, and learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities!

Please note that we will be at the Main Library in downtown Columbus [we had previously been at the Driving Park Branch Library].

Friday, October 11, 8am-4pm, Hilton Columbus Downtown, 401 N. High St.

The Summit on Sustainability is MORPC’s signature environmental conference, bringing together hundreds of community leaders to explore and share sustainable ideas and solutions and to celebrate individuals and collaborative sustainability efforts with the Regional Sustainability Awards.

Thursday, October 3, 7-8:30pm, Compassionate Communication Center of Ohio [inside of Maynard Ave. United Methodist Church], 2350 Indianola Ave.

Join us for an engaging and fun introduction to Compassionate-Nonviolent Communication (NVC), the Language of the Heart, led by Susanna Warren.

People of all experience levels, ranging from beginners to experienced practitioners, are welcome to this gathering. We will have a short explanation, a demonstration, and then we will give everyone a chance to practice giving and/or receiving empathy.

Thursday, October 3, 7-8:30pm, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 30 W. Woodruff Ave.

Living in Columbus, it’s not hard to see that the system is broken. We live under a reign of police terror where working-class black and brown youth are targeted for execution and imprisonment; Ohio State University and the city of Columbus have been working together to gentrify neighborhood after neighborhood; tens of thousands of students are getting into life-long debt for an education; ICE harasses undocumented immigrants with impunity; landlords and capitalists exploit and oppress us.

Wednesday, October 2, 7-8:30pm, Columbus Metropolitan Library [Main Branch], 96 S. Grant Ave.

Note: please check the facebook.com/JVPCentralOhio/ Facebook page to confirm that this meeting will indeed be held at this location.

Jewish Voice for Peace members are inspired by Jewish tradition to work together for peace, social justice, equality, human rights, respect for international law, and a U.S. foreign policy that is based on these ideals.
