Enjoy a musical reflection with a concert from the Columbus International Children’s Choir on Sunday, March 8 at 4pm. This internationally-known choir exposes its members to different cultures and musical styles while promoting self-confidence and responsibility. Several ensembles, representing various age groups, will perform.

This event is free and open to the public though donations for the choir will be accepted.

Serious love songs and a humorous trivia quiz will highlight a Valentines concert by Bill Cohen and friends at the Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Ave. The show runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Friday, February 7.

With guitar and piano, Bill will sing favorites from the 1950s through the 1970s that have been made famous by John Denver, the Everly Brothers, Sam Cooke, Bette Midler, James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, the Eagles, the Beatles, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Tom Waits, and others.

On this, the 60th anniversary of the first lunch counter sit-in, we’ll recall an often-forgotten era when black and white civil rights demonstrators marched together, were beaten together, were arrested together, and were even killed together.

The Voice of Freedom: Civil Rights introduces audiences to the operatic art form by celebrating African-American cultural history through song. Universal in its emotional and musical appeal, this unique production will highlight gospel, jazz, and other works from the Civil Rights Movement. “The Voice of Freedom: Civil Rights” aims to share the African-American experience with audiences of all ages, races, and religions. This show is an abridged version of “The Journey: Civil Rights.”
