Nationally acclaimed journalist, political commentator, and media entrepreneur Roland Martin will join Congresswoman Joyce Beatty for the 2026 State of Black America, a powerful community conversation focused on the future of Black democracy, political participation, and civic engagement in America.
The event will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Columbus, Ohio, and will serve as the opening event for Black Girl Dad Week 2026.
Hosted by Male Behavioral Health, the State of Black America has become one of Central Ohio's premier forums for discussing the most pressing issues facing Black communities. This year's conversation will focus on what organizers describe as a growing crisis in Black democracy and political participation.
"At a time when voter access, political representation, civic engagement, and public policy continue to shape the future of Black communities, it is critical that we create spaces for honest dialogue, education, and collective action," said Jewel Woods, LISW-S, Founder and Clinical Director of Male Behavioral Health. "We are honored to welcome Roland Martin and Congresswoman Joyce Beatty to lead this important conversation."

Why This Conversation Matters
Organizers note that Black communities continue to face significant challenges related to political representation, voter access, economic inequality, educational disparities, and public safety. The State of Black America provides an opportunity to examine these challenges while identifying pathways toward greater civic engagement and collective progress.
"Democracy works best when people are informed, engaged, and empowered," said Woods. "This event is about ensuring that our community understands both the challenges we face and the opportunities we have to shape our future."
