The immensely powerful, deeply moving and historic protests of our nation’s athletes against the absurd rantings of our Great Dictator make one thing abundantly clear: the diversity of this nation is not going away.
But The Star Spangled Banner should. It’s a lousy song with a racist message. We need a new anthem—-or to acknowledge many of them.
Likewise the dotard illegitimately occupying the White House. We can do better.
So let’s combine the campaigns.
Words to the Star Spangled Banner were written by Francis Scott Key, a slaveowner. He commemorated the failure of the British to conquer Baltimore in the War of 1812, an utterly useless conflict. The Brits had just burned our nation’s capital, partly in response to our burning their Canadian headquarters at York, now Toronto.
In response to the Burma (Myanmar) government backed genocide against the Rohingya Muslim minority in that nation, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is urging Americans of all faiths and backgrounds to take part in the following actions to increase American and international pressure on the Burmese government.

Join Council on American-lslamic Relations [CAIR] Columbus this Friday at the intersection of High St. and Broad St. at the Ohio Statehouse for a rally in solidarity with the Rohingya and to demand that Congress take action to halt the violence in Burma [now Myanmar].
For years, the Burmese government has been committing ethnic and religious cleansing of the vulnerable Rohingya people. The apartheid government of Burma continues to carry out attacks against innocent civilians, causing many to be displaced, forced out of homes, and stranded at the border without food, shelter, or any necessities.

We'll talk about how Central Ohio is and should be responding to the needs of the immigrant, refugee, and New American populations as they come under assault from the federal government and as progressive local leaders fight back to protect and support them.

It has been one year since Columbus Police officer Bryan Mason shot and killed 13-year-old Tyre King after mistaking him for a 19-year-old who allegedly stole $10. Bryan Mason is still on duty with the Columbus Police Department. Come out to join community, friends, and family as we send our Blessings Up to Tyre. The Details: Please arrive to Mock Park by 6 pm. We will release 13 BLUE balloons at 6:30 pm. Please feel free to bring a balloon (or balloons) with you, as long as they are NOT blue ♥ We would like to honor Tyre's 13 years of life through the 13 Blue balloons we will have one site, along with any other balloons you all may bring ♥

Since the election of Donald Trump, the emboldened far-right has focused on university campuses as a key site of organizing -- to both recruit young people to their white supremacist, fascist movement, and to target oppressed students and workers fighting together for justice.
The far-right's orientation on campus has forced students to ask a plethora of questions: Am I safe on campus? What can I do to stop far-right intimidation here? Is the university administration our friend in this fight? Why is this all happening in the first place?
At this meeting we will try to answer these pressing questions, distill the lessons of past and current student movements, and motivate how essential student organizing is today.
Only a strong and organized left can stop the right-wing threat on our campuses. And combating the right will be an essential part of our common struggle for a better university, country, and world.
