When is the Debate for Mayor?

Hardin and Ginther faces in mirrors

In a functioning democracy we have debates. Simple conversations about ideas and plans for the future, but this is Columbus.

Although the Columbus mayoral race isn’t until 2027, two declared candidates are incumbent Andrew Ginther and Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin.

In Columbus neither candidate has agreed to any kind of debate. We don’t even know their future long-term goals or objectives. Neither Ginther nor Hardin have any.

The Columbus political process has devolved into photos and videos posted to Instagram and Facebook with Ginther and Hardin smiling with the public.

What will they do when elected? They will both do the same thing: obey the corporate welfare machine and special interests that fund their campaigns to defund city government (and Columbus City Schools) with massive property tax cuts for wealthy developers.

You are too busy trying to buy unhealthy food and live in unaffordable apartments. At the end of the day you beg for distractions such as football.

  • You know that the Fire and Police Departments have been cut while the City grows. They don’t listen.
  • You know that the City has no master plan for growth and has given all control to our future to re-zoning controlled by developers. They don’t listen.
  • You know that there is zero investment in adapting to climate change even though it is a threat to our survival. They don’t listen.

Some people have woken up to the corporate take-over of City Hall, but most are happy just to continue to be distracted by their media machine; more propaganda than anything else.

A debate with Ginther or Hardin would be a lot like each of them talking to themselves in a mirror. Two professional politicians who have never held a “real job” only interested in their careers.
