The Fair Food Program created by Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) has ended abuse for tens of thousands of farmworkers in this decade. Today, we’re inviting all Fair Food allies in Ohio to join with the farmworkers by joining the Wendy’s Boycott. If you want to join the boycott or would like more information about the Fair Food Campaign and how you can take action, please send your name to: ohiofairfood@gmail.com or call Sue Carter at 614-459-0017.
Wednesday, June 5, 4:30-6:30pm, Ohio Statehouse [corner of S. Third St. and E. State St.]
Ohio House Bill 6 would eliminate Ohio’s energy efficiency and clean energy programs. It would replace them with a charge on every Ohioan’s electric bill that would go to bail out First Energy’s crumbling leaking nuclear plants and two coal-fired plants, one of which is in Indiana.
Opponents to H.B. 6 will be gathering at three locations across the state during the first week in June [Toledo on June 3, Columbus on June 5, and Akron on June 7] to protest this unacceptable dirty energy tax on Ohioans. Wind and solar power are cheaper and can replace nukes and coal, but not if we are subsidizing the dirty power.

Pack the house to protect the vote! Advocates will present to the Board of Elections new findings that show voters’ rights may be in jeopardy. Now is the time to take action and protect voting rights! Use your voice by attending the Franklin County Board of Elections meeting at 3 pm on Monday, June 3rd, 2019 to advocate for Countywide voter education programming and more comprehensive poll worker training. High rates of provisional ballot use - and rejection - not only raise questions about the health of the election system but also reflect barriers to voters being able to cast a ballot that counts.Show up and let election officials know we need to reform the system now! Location: Franklin County Board of Elections Office, 1700 Morse Rd., Columbus, OH 43229. Sign up here: https://go.peoplepower.org/event/action/20010

More than a naloxone training, this FREE workshop will address the fundamental principles behind harm reduction, describing how and why a compassionate, "nothing about us without us" approach to drug use saves lives by limiting the harm caused by stigma, lack of safe supplies, and de-humanizing carceral approach to addiction. Harm reduction advocates who organize in Columbus and across Ohio will describe what tools and programs are being used to value and save the lives of drug users. Attendees will leave the workshop with important harm reduction supplies, such as narcan and sterile needles. Sheila Humphrey-Craig of Harm Reduction Ohio will also introduce her groundbreaking mock safe consumption tent, which will be on display as a resource at the Community Pride Festival. Facebook.

SB 33 is a bill that, if passed, would criminalize protests against the gas and oil industry (i.e., fracking, cracker plants for plastic production). Wednesday's hearing is for proponents, so the committee is not expecting to see We the People who oppose it there. We need to let its members know that we care. Can you make it to the Ohio statehouse tomorrow? Here is the information:

Death Penalty Action is raising funds to support protests on the ground at the site of the 1500th execution in the United States since 1977. At this writing on May 24th, the 1500th execution may be July 31st in Texas. This may change if there is a stay in prior execution(s) or new dates are added.
These funds will help us raise awareness and coordinate on-the-ground activities around the date of the execution. With your help, we'll be able to support abolitionists who would travel to be there.
Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $1500. Every little bit helps.
Thank you for your support. Death Penalty Action (DPA) provides high visibility resources, leadership, support, educational and direct action events and activities within the broader anti-death penalty movement.
