Police Funding Up, Community Safety Measures Down:
This budget goes against public health best practices that tell us to invest in social determinant-focused programs like affordable housing, quality health services, food security, and after-school programs, We must loudly reject this proposal to save lives and keep institutional thugs off our streets. If the incoming Republican administration does try to report some 10 million or so illegal immigrants, there are likely to be some complications. Maybe a few hundred thousand legal immigrants and actual US citizens will also be deported by accident because they "looked illegal." This may result in billions of dollars in lawsuits later. Maybe a few million immigrants will go into hiding, work underground, and assume new identities.
Many of these immigrants are not just fleeing poverty, but they are possibly escaping being murdered in their home countries. Most of the time, they are willing to jobs that no American would do. Immigration is not as big a problem as Republicans would have people believe.
Every immigrant in the US has the right to have their cases heard. Right now, the justice system is already so overloaded with immigration cases that some won't even get hearings until 2027 or 2028. This is why the Republicans are not going to be able to deport 10 million immigrants all at once.
A pivotal climate battle can be won by solarizing California for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics...upending the global equation ecologically, economically and politically.
Letter printed below
The principle political target is Gavin Newsom, not Donald Trump.
As Lieutenant-Governor, Newsom signed a landmark 2018 blueprint for shutting the two dying atomic reactors at Diablo Canyon, replacing their output with a green phase-in.
The deal was signed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown, the state legislature & regulators, local governments, unions, green groups...& plant owner PG&E
Solar, wind, geothermal and battery storage now dwarf Diablo's output & regularly exceed California's entire electric demand; installed statewide battery backup exceeds Diablo's capacity by a factor of 4 (and growing) avoiding potential blackouts at least twice.
Covering LA County's rooftops, parking lots & aqueducts with solar panels can power all 60 Olympics sites & more. CA's 2,000,000 solar rooftops once sustained 70,000 jobs and put us on a trajectory to totally green-power Earth's #5 economy.
American cities are in crisis. From an ever-widening income gap to the absence of affordable housing to crumbling schools, many metropolitan areas are on an unsustainable trajectory. However, these problems are not caused by immigration and “woke policies” as the right would have you believe. Instead, the root of the problem is the insatiable greed of the capitalist class and the corruption that inevitably follows in its wake.
Columbus, Ohio is a classic example of the mutually beneficial relationship between city officials and developers that all too often leaves working people behind. In an ongoing effort to lure wealthy developers to the area, the city provides tax abatements. In return for building in certain areas and for including “affordable” housing in their developments, these developers are given significant tax breaks. From the point of view of finance capital and elected officials in the city it is a classic win-win situation. Corporations get their money, and the city gets new and more profitable housing units for its expanding population.
Friends,
It was announced recently that it appears the final count may now be in — and Trump has FAILED to win a majority of the popular vote. His final total, as of now, will be under 50% — or 49.83%.
This was no landslide. It was the smallest percentage of a popular vote victory in a Presidential election since Richard Nixon in 1968.
Here’s how little we lost by:
Just 12 votes per precinct across the entire United States!
That’s it. With Harris behind by just 2.4 million votes out of the 152 million who voted, that’s an average of just 12 votes per precinct across the nearly 200,000 precincts in the U.S.
According to the news wire service, Israel Ambassador nominee Mike Huckabee said hostages must be released. Does he mean the 2.2 million Palestinian hostages held in Gaza or the 12,000 Palestinians held in 13 Israeli concentration camps without charges or trial dates for years? Among the thousands of Palestinians (some Christians, yes, I said Christians) held in Israeli jails without due process, must also be released. So now Mikey, as a professing Christian, how will he work on that one?
Since Huckabee said during his presidential campaign in 2015 that "There is no such thing as Palestinians, I assume he was referring to only the Israeli hostages. Huck spends a lot of time on Twitter. He thinks he's very funny and slick. The fact is he is boring, dull, and Islamophobic, and he will put you to sleep.
