Art as Resistance

How have people made art to further democratic causes? Our August 28 Artist Commune explores techniques artists have used throughout history—like photojournalism and printmaking, among others—to combat oppression.

At this interactive art-making event, we invite practicing artists to share space and discuss democracy in their own artistic practice. You can bring your work-in-progress or create something new with our free supplies.

August 2026 marks the four-year anniversary of the Artist Commune series, and we’re going back to the event’s roots in challenging the dynamic of traditional art museums and gallery spaces. We want to create a welcoming community where anyone can create art without barriers.
