Human Rights Day

Saturday, December 10

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December to commemorate the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly had adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day.

Humanist Community of Central Ohio [HCCO] Winter Solstice Celebration

Santa Speedo Dash for Diabetes [5K Run and 1-Mile Walk]

Saturday, December 10, 10:30am [registration and pre-party]; 12noon [race begins], McFerson Commons (Arch Park) 218 West St.; 1pm [post-race party], The Three-Legged Mare, 401 N. Front St., #150

The Santa Speedo Dash is comprised of participants who run a winter 5K, or walk one mile, wearing either a Speedo or holiday-themed-attire [which is encouraged but is not mandatory]. Central Ohio Diabetes Association’s Young Professionals Against Diabetes (YPAD) started the Santa Speedo Dash event in 2012; since then, the event has become one of the most infamous fun runs in Central Ohio.

Twelfth Annual Statewide Tribute to Rosa Parks

Ohio is recognized as the first state to enact legislation identifying December 1 as Rosa Parks Day. To honor this remarkable woman, the Central Ohio Transit Authority [COTA] and The Ohio State University join Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, Rosa Parks Day Founder, in hosting the Twelfth Annual Statewide Tribute to Rosa Parks.
