Protest/Rally

Saturday, July 17, 12noon-3pm, Ohio Statehouse

In February, Sunrise Columbus and Sunrise hubs across Ohio launched a campaign for transit justice. We delivered over 100 letters to Senator Sherrod Brown, who, as Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, is uniquely positioned to impact transit in our country. We demand that Senator Brown champion public transit and secure federal funding for expanded, accessible, and green public transit.

Why should you care about public transit?

Every Ohioan, regardless of where we are from, what we look like, or where we live, deserves the opportunity to live in healthy, safe communities that support us and allow us to thrive. Ohio’s unaccountable extremist politicians have crafted the state budget with the intent to help the wealthiest Ohioans while harming the rest of us, especially Ohioans who are Black, brown, transgender, and gender non-conforming, those who live in rural areas, have low incomes, and are in need of abortion care.

On June 26, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will end the $300/week federal unemployment benefits for Ohio. These payments are federally funded in full and were supposed to be available until September. Far from recovered, workers still need these payments to pay their bills and buy groceries.

We’re going all in for Ohio’s kids to demand our lawmakers pass the #FairSchoolFundingPlan. Together, we’re helping all of our kids thrive — no exceptions.

The Ohio Organizing Collaborative is joining the Ohio Education Association, Ohio Federation of Teachers, and other partners to deliver petition signatures and to raise the urgent need to pass the Fair School Funding Formula.

Come with your school spirit wear!

Saturday, May 8, 1-3pm, Goodale Park, 120 W. Goodale St.

Israeli settlers, backed by the US-funded Israeli Occupation Forces, are trying to force Palestinians out of their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. 500 Palestinians are at risk of eviction.

Settlers and Israeli soldiers have been attacking Palestinians daily and are inflicting severe violence in their attempt to ethnically cleanse East Jerusalem. On Wednesday night [5-5-2021], Israeli forces murdered 16-year-old Said Odeh, elsewhere in the West Bank, near Nablus.

Saturday, April 10, 12noon, Ohio Statehouse and via “Facebook Live”

The Ohio Legislature is proposing bills that are so broad that peacefully protesting would be fair game for felony convictions and exorbitant fines. One such bill (S.B. 33) goes into effect on April 12.

Use this link to learn more information about these bills.

Let’s protest while we still can and shed some light on the detrimental effect that they will have on our First Amendment rights to free speech.

Saturday, April 10, several different times and locations across Ohio

Protests across Ohio and a “Virtual Story Circle” (via Zoom) will be happening on April 10 at around 12noon, to speak out against anti-protest bills that have been proposed in Ohio. See below for links to each event.
