In the wake of Charlottesville, the fascist “alt-right” has announced their intentions to organize another violent rally in Berkeley, California on August 27. Over eighty Berkeley community organizations have issued a statement asking for supporters to organize solidarity actions against right-wing hate and violence across the country to coincide with their own counter-protests.

Last Saturday, the face of hate descended on Charlottesville to wage a campaign of terror and violence. It was not an anomaly. America was “discovered,” founded and built on an ocean of blood and genocide and our legacy of racism remains alive and well today. This Saturday, the nation responds in solidarity by calling out for the removal of local symbols and institutions of white supremacy.

U.S. Senator Rob Portman and Vice President Mike Pence will be speaking at the annual Ohio Republican Party state dinner fundraiser on The Ohio State University campus.

We will gather outside the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St., to “Rally Against Pence and Portman” and to protest the extreme right-wing agenda, that endangers many Ohioan’s jobs and health, that both politicians have endorsed.

City Council will be voting to put a racially-discriminatory form of at-large election on the ballot. Call Shannon Hardin, Priscilla Tyson, Jaiza Paige, Mitch Brown, and Zach Klein to tell them not to allow institutionalized racism in our charter for the next 100 years. Call once a day, all week. This past Thursday, July 6, hundreds of people across the U.S. participated in sit-ins at senators’ offices to stand up against Trumpcare. Columbus activists joined in the national action by sitting in at Portman’s local office with these demands:

(1.) That Senator Portman host a public town hall to discuss the healthcare bill with his constituents.

The U.S. Senate will soon vote on a health care repeal bill that would devastate Medicaid, children, rural Ohio hospitals, and people living with mental illness and addiction.

U.S. Senator Rob Portman has said that he wants to protect “the most vulnerable in our society.” If he votes for the AHCA/BCRA, he will put vulnerable Ohioans at risk.

The Ohio General Assembly wants to freeze Medicaid enrollments!

This week, Ohio’s legislature passed a budget bill that freezes enrollments in expanded Medicaid after July 1, 2018. The bill has been passed to Governor Kasich; he is expected to veto the language that freezes enrollments. If that happens, the legislature may have the votes to override his veto and pass the enrollment freeze into law.

The House-passed health care bill would defund Planned Parenthood health clinics — which have served more than 1 million women just since Trump’s inauguration. With the Senate bill being written by 13 men in complete secrecy and the Senate vote on the bill taking place as early as next week, now is the time to stand with Planned Parenthood and fight for women’s health.
