The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) hosts a series of tours each year for all to see and learn about local farms and food. This tour on Saturday, June 27 is at Nut and Horse Farms. They are a small-scale commercial farm focused on owners Joe Hietter and Amy Rothe-Hietter’s two passions: trees and horses. Their nut tree orchard consists of chestnut, hazelnut, black walnut, heartnut, butternut, pecan, hickory, and hican (cross between pecan and hickory) trees. They have permaculture implemented, and will explain what is involved in growing nut trees with a number of examples of their successes and failures.
