What Does Redistricting have to do with me?
Thursday, June 3, 6:30-8pm, this on-line event requires advance registration
Ohio recently voted on two ballot issues to change the way our state and congressional districts are drawn. This year, Ohio redraws the lines. How do the ballot issues change the process for mapping Ohio’s districts? How might it impact our votes? Learn more and discuss redistricting in this “Zoom Popular Education” event with Communities United For Action, Common Cause, and League of Women Voters of Greater Cincinnati.

Mack Beggs has a problem. The Texas teen is an accomplished wrestler, but the state forces him to wrestle girls. That’s because Mack was born a female, and though he’s begun transitioning to male, Texas law requires young athletes to compete in the gender they were assigned at birth.
Mack is one of three teenagers portrayed in Changing the Game, a documentary directed by Mark Barnett that examines the controversial issue of trans athletes in a way that’s compassionate, thoughtful and evenhanded. It’s also comprehensive, as each of the youths lives in a different state, and each state has a different way of dealing with the issue. Also featured are:
• Sarah Rose Huckman, a competitive skier who lives in New Hampshire, which allows trans athletes to compete in their chosen gender, but only if they’ve undergone reassignment surgery.
• Andraya Yearwood, a track athlete who lives in Connecticut, which allows all athletes to compete in their preferred gender regardless of where they are in the reassignment process.
The Columbus Division of Police has a new chief in Elaine Bryant but this isn’t ceasing the mission of the Columbus Police Accountability Project or “C-PAP,” which is one month into taking sworn testimony from the community as it seeks to convince the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) that the Division “is out of control and needs federal oversight.”
So far over 30 individuals have come forward, testifying to the C-PAP’s volunteer citizen leaders in the Columbus Black community, which was announced by civil rights attorney Sean Walton at a press conference in late April.
They’re retelling stories of unconstitutional stops with no cause, unconstitutional detentions, and unlawful uses of force, among other complaints. Their treatment by Columbus police is something they vividly remember and will never forget. Many of those testified about being abused or arrested in retaliation for peacefully exercising their Free Speech rights at the George Floyd protests last summer.
“If you have stories to tell, come tell them. We can, must and will fix this,” C-PAP organizers stated in a recent press release.
Let’s listen in for a moment to the gentle, awkward language of mass killing:
“The employment or threat of employment of nuclear weapons could have a significant influence on ground operations. . . . Integration of nuclear weapons into a theater of operations requires the consideration of multiple variables. Using nuclear weapons could create conditions for decisive results and the restoration of strategic stability. Specifically, the use of a nuclear weapon will fundamentally change the scope of a battle and create conditions that affect how commanders will prevail in conflict.”
This is a sneak peek into a 2019 report by the Joint Chiefs of Staff called “Nuclear Operations,” which Brian Terrell quoted recently. The document was, for some reason, publicly posted in the waning days of the Trump administration, then — oops — quickly removed, but not before it was downloaded by the Federation of American Scientists.

Several things are happening simultaneously. Most important, Israel has lost the public opinion war in much of the world through its brutality during the recent attack on Gaza and it continues to lose ground even in the wake of a cease fire due to mass arrests of Palestinians and armed police intrusions in and around the al-Aqsa mosque. The government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is by its actions making clear that the ethnic cleansing of Palestine will continue at a time that he chooses.

(Note by Gary Kohls:: The sobering information below is from my courageous whistle-blowing friend from Canada, Kevin Annett. It concerns the covered-up, unindicted and therefore unpunished official Canadian genocide and crimes against humanity against the aboriginal people of Canada. Similar crimes against the aboriginal people of the United States exist. The information is based on archival records, eyewitness interviews and the research and the public campaigns of Kevin Annett and The Truth Commission into Genocide in Canada (2000-2005), The Friends and Relatives of the Disappeared (2005-2012) and The International Tribunal of Crimes of Church and State (2010-present).
