The Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus (“CGMC”), central Ohio’s premier TTBB vocal organization, is holding a special concert presented by its sacred ensemble, Illuminati.
Illuminati is one of the only LGBTQ+ sacred ensembles in the United States, and is presenting its annual full-length concert of sacred and spiritual music, along with songs from monthly services at houses of worship where the ensemble has been invited to perform.
Illuminati will perform their “Celestial Springs” concert on Sunday, May 18 at 2p.m. at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, located at 2480 West Granville Road in Columbus. The concert is part of CGMC’s 35 th anniversary season. This concert is a chance for audiences to experience what Illuminati calls “Outreach” events, which occur in sacred spaces throughout central Ohio year-round. The concerts are titled specifically this way, different than “performances,” because they happen at
places of worship, often during services themselves, and present a face of the LGBTQIA+ community in a faith setting that may be different than what attendees may
expect.

Faydark’s Lost Empires is Dungeon Synth straight from Columbus via Springfield, Ohio’s Dungeon Synth label Dungeon Deep Records. I don’t know why I was sent Faydark instead of VM.
True Norwegian Black Metal’s author Pete Beste ordered Faydark from Dungeon Deep…
Perhaps Faydark is the Dungeon Deep hit. Dungeon Synth is a genre which I’d like to call Adult Contemporary Black Metal. Dungeon Synth replaces guitars, and screaming with synthesizers.
It isn’t quite that easy to compare dungeon synth with fusion jazz Weather Report or hardcore post-punk turned house deejays. Dungeon Synth orgins are 90’s Black Metal.
Mortiis of Emperor liked Klaus Shulze, early Pink Floyd and German electronic music. Mortis started in metal as a fan of W.A.S.P. with a love of porn star Samantha Fox. I would call Tangerine Dream a maturation from Blackie Lawless. I won’t slut shame Samantha Fox. He wasn’t super technical so electronic music fit his skill set.
Columbus Women’s Chorus, central Ohio’s only feminist chorus, will continue celebrating its 35th year with the world premiere of a commissioned work Dance the Wind, with music by Assistant Artistic Director / Accompanist Sheena Phillips and lyrics by soprano Bobbie Brooks. The Artistic Director is Lisa Springer.
The chorus will perform a wide variety of contemporary music, from folk to classical to blues, with new repertoire plus favorites chosen by members of the chorus, now 80 singers strong.
Due to a sold out concert last November, there will be two shows this spring.
Saturday May 3 and Sunday May 4
First Unitarian Universalist Church
93 W. Weisheimer Rd. in the Clintonville neighborhood
Doors open at 6:30pm for both concerts, which will begin promptly at 7:00.
The venue is handicap accessible and the concerts will be interpreted for the hearing impaired.
Dr. Bob and Dan-o Dougan commemorate Earth Day with songs by and about the Earth, the world, and land and discuss climate change.

I don’t know where Blueprint’s 2005 record, 1988 stands in the history of Columbus records. I know it’s one of the best albums our city has ever released. I just haven’t made a ranking.
In the least, I won’t rank every Columbus record I like while reviewing a concert in Grandview. I know Blueprint’s 1988 is one of the most important records our city created. Blueprint performed Columbus Classic 1988 at Natalie’s. We were bumping a Rhymesayers Classic complete.
Natalie's was packed. I looked around. I understood why people attended. I worked with Blueprint’s Weightless Recording for years.
I promoted the original release party for 1988 with Blueprint’s label Weightless in 2005. I’ve seen Print at DJ PRZM’s events, Scribble Jam, Newport, Comfest, Skully’s, and Carabar etc. RIP PRZM.
I’ve watched Print in San Francisco, and various Illinois cities. I watched Detox and Blueprint every week for three years at Cafe Bourbon Street during So What Wednesdays. DAYMON DODSON RIP. Peace Sinkane.
This week, Dr. Bob Fitrakis and Dan-o Dougan talk about climate change, the increase in wind in Ohio, how Trump is trying to stop windmills, and play lots of songs about wind.

Dr. Bob and Dan-o highlight musicians honored through the years at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, inclduding Buddy Guy, Led Zeppelin, Mavis Staples, Linda Ronstadt and more! Unfotunately Trump has fired the whole Board of the Kennedy Center and replaced them with himself and his buddies to prevent anyone woke from getting an award.

If I find out Matt Miner is in a band. I know I will like the music. I saw the Third Pyramid Band included Matt Miner. Matt’s portfolio is unparalleled. The Columbus skateboard legend played in Three Studies For A Crucification and Teeth of the Hydra. Three Studies were an important band during Hardcore Columbus’ formative years in the 90’s. After Three Studies, his next group Teeth of the Hydra were a nationally known doom metal band once the punks decided Sabbath is the ultimate working man’s music in the early aughts. I loved Matt’s next band, Nukkkehammer.
I attended the Third Pyramid Band show. I know the Third Pyramid Band show wouldn’t be wack. I was impressed. Third Pyramid landed hardcore’s progression into saving rock’n’roll. A lady singer named Nic crooned like Janis Joplin or Grace Slick while a band plays with black sabbath accent.
The Third Pyramid Band is the best newish band in Columbus. It ain’t even a contest.
I recommend The Third Pyramid Band @ Cafe Bourbon Street/March 8th.
I interviewed our favorite hessian about Third Pyramid band and Columbus countercultures.
