Skylab’s last party wasn’t a reunion of the history of DIY @ 57 E. Gay Street.
Last Skylab Party: Friday November 22, 2024
The current Skylab community danced with a reunion of late 90’s techno, Friday November 22, 2024. I ain’t saying 90s Techno wasn’t artistic or involved with Columbus culture. I think late 90s techno in 90s DIY circles were at a Space called Fire Exit. I don’t know if Fire Exit utilized FBK, Stevie Zeven, Fractured Eons, and Chris Mckee.
Do you consider Mouse on Mars an electronic group? I saw Mouse on Mars at Fire Exit.
I think the Elemental Crew were the techno deejay’s involved with Fire Exit. Elemental were involved with Titonton, Todd Sines ETC. I’d seen Titonton’s name from Skylab’s Instagram during this year. Titonton, Todd Sines ETC. weren’t at Friday’s event, but I talked with people who attended Fire Exit techno events.
FB, Stevie Zeven, Fractured Eons, and Chris Mckee weren’t wack. I kept realizing I didn’t hate the techno music.
Skylab’s living room was filled people drinking and conversation. People danced in the gallery.
As part of its 35th year as central Ohio’s premier LGBTQIA + performing organization, the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus (“CGMC”) is very proud to announce that they are launching their first-ever Youth Performing Ensemble.
“I’m incredibly proud that we are launching this Youth Ensemble because there are very few opportunities like this across the country,” said CGMC’s Executive Director Donovan Jones. “It’s important to me that we create a space where LGBTQIA+ youth in Columbus can come together, feel seen, and express themselves through music.”
CGMC believes that we are living in a time where members of our vast LGBTQIA+ family are continuing to be persecuted for simply daring to exist as their authentic true selves. This horrific truth is evidenced by the numerous pieces of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation that have been introduced in governing bodies all across our nation. Specifically, regarding LGBTQIA+ youth, there continues to be too few safe spaces where they can feel accepted and affirmed for being exactly who they are.
Dr. Bob Fitrakis and Dan-o Dougan converse with local musician Ed Forman and play songs from his new album with 400 Pirates -- and a few live songs he strums in the studio.

If I’ve ever existed in a singer’s demographic, I’m in Clairo’s. I’ve played Clairo’s songs from the Atlanta singer’s newest album CHARMED from ANONROCKNROLL.
I’m Charmed by Clairo. I took the 2 from Campus and jumped off near the North Market.
Clairo walked out into the sold-out Kemba Pavilion in almost a prom dress. The original of Wu’s, “Tears” boomed into the evening. I stood around as high school, middle school, and college kids were enamored at a brunette from Atlanta, Georgia’s entrance. Clairo sat on the stage and drank booze with Clairo’s band while the Wu-Tang original seemed like pure essence.
Charli XCX walked out ointo the stage wearing a wedding veil. The wedding attire conjured Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” for a second. Queen Brat then said, “Columbus, Ohio. Will You Marry Me?”
During the evening. Charli kept an intimate dialogue during stage banter as if every individual in the packed arena were Charli’s kindred spirit who understood with the deepest emotional connection.
Charli XCX rotated sets with Australian pop singer Troy Sitivan. Charli took the stage with Brit wave rapper-singer ShyGirl. Charli intertwined a marriage proposal for our city while performing 365’s Remix.
One of my hobbies before Saturday’s show was finding Chali XCX rap songs. Everyone I knew cracked up that Charli XCX recorded with Ed Banger’s Uffie. Uffie, and Balam ACAB’s involvement with Charli XCX sorta changed a perception…
Should Charli XCX be a Taylor Swift/Britney Spears star or someone who didn’t quit once Daft Punk and Justice fans couldn’t use Kanye West as their pop sensation.
Ed Banger Records might be Kanye’s political stances biggest casualty.

First they came for the Descendents: I’d voted against Trump. Then they came for Taylor Swift: I still am voting against Trump.
Saturday, 9-14-2024….I took the Number 1, a 62 dollar 31 day bus pass dropped me off in front of North Market.
I walked down into Kemba. I saw punks of all ages excited about Columbus’ 2024 liveage.
The Descendents took the stage at Kemba Live.
Descendents’ singer, Milo Aukerman yelled O-H…Kemba Live responded I-O—-Milo Aukerman announced Descendent’s haven’t played Columbus since Staches.
I looked up Descendents at Staches. I found online…Descendents played Staches every year from 1985-1987. I didn’t know how far Descendents went back. The legendary New Alliace/SST/Epitaph/Fat Wreck band launched into “Feel This,” “Hope,” and one of my favorite Descendent’s songs, “Silly Girl.”
I saw a punk in orbit riding shoulders, and hands towards the stage in a trajectory of my left vantage. I looked at our surroundings. A buff kid in a tank-top sung along. Kemba’s entire audience were elated in company of punk legends.
I stepped out. I jumped on the 1. My 62 dollar, 31 day-pass expired.
I paid 5 for a day pass. Five dollars is still cheaper than paying for parking. I would visit Kroger soon for my 62 dollar Month COTA pass.
GZA from the Wu-Tang Clan’s concert existed within a short jaunt from my residence. At first discovery of the Wu, if people asked who my favorite Wu-Tang Clan member. I would say, GZA or RZA. In an online quiz, those would be the intellectual Wu members. I don’t have a Wu Favorite anymore. I like everyone in Wu-Tang Clan.
GZA was opening for Sublime with Rome. I’d looked at Sublime’s setlist. Sublime wasn’t playing the only Sublime song I know, KRS-1. During KRS-1, Sublime details Boogie Down Bronx’s KRS-1 teaching them about Elijah Muhammad, and our countries’ economic disparities. I hadn’t heard this song until last year. Sublime’s KRS-1 was an epiphany for me.
WHEN: Sunday September 1st, 4 pm – 5:30 pmWHERE: Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Avenue, Columbus 43214.(Free parking along Oakland Park and in nearby lots, owned by North Broadway Methodist Church)
Let’s put some meaning back into the Labor Day holiday this year by singing the praises -- literally -- of all the workers who make our lives richer by doing their everyday jobs--- farmers, truckers, factory workers, teachers, doctors, white collar workers, miners, and more.
Join Bill Cohen as he sings songs made famous by a wide variety of folks: Woody Guthrie, Sam Cooke, Dolly Parton, Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen, Alabama, James Taylor, etc.
Powerful vocal harmonies will be added by veteran Columbus musicians Phil Hart and Teresa Schleifer.
Plus, we’ll recall how, decades ago, labor unions won historic reforms that many of us take for granted today – the 8-hour workday, improved workplace safety, a guaranteed minimum wage, and an end to child labor.
