As we watch the horror unfolding before our eyes like a giant time-delayed broadcast, a deeper horror should also be setting in. The entire discussion surrounding the "revelations" of mistreatment of Iraqis by the US (does bombing water purification plants count as mistreatment?) has taken on a sickening, surreal turn. I feel like we are watching "things fall apart," as Chinua Achebe once wrote. The center, indeed, does not hold, and we are witnessing the spiraling out of control of almost every element of our perception: moral compass spinning aimlessly, intellectual ground slipping, right merging with wrong, a sort of Mad Imperial Tea Party. Up is down, day is night, and war is peace as we descend Down the Spider Hole.

Up until now, the primary reason Kerry thinks he should be President is that he served in Vietnam.  That is great; however, the gentleman below takes issue with his service.  The most important things to consider are what he has done since then.  His voting record is very anti-military. He talks about creating jobs.  He doesn't have a clue about creating jobs.  No President can "create" jobs.  Presidents can only try to create a climate for job growth and Kerry's high tax plan would kill the job growth we are starting to see now.  We all can't marry filthy rich widows, Senator.  All he knows to do is to pander to the voters with expanded give-away programs in exchange for votes - typical liberal view of redistribution of wealth.  Whatever happened to JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"?  Or something like that.    

Sometimes I feel as though the government is telling the public "Get out there and make some money; we have Senators to feed."

As revelations surface from interviews with Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, former Iraqi prison commander, that the Abu Ghraib prison evolved into an interrogation center -- Orwellian goodspeak for torture chambers -- and control of the prison shifted to the military intelligence command, one name resurfaces from the archives of recent scandal: Boykin.

Army Lt. Gen. William Boykin is under a reluctant investigation for a church-to-church speaking tour last year in which he demonized Islam and Muslims and characterized the current conflict as a religious war between Christians, who are good, and Muslims, who are on the side of 'Satan.' To make matters worse, it was discovered that he often wore his military uniform during these speeches, furthering the impression that he was speaking from the military's viewpoint.

Go, tell your children about this. Go,  look into their eyes and tell them that  you want to gamble their lives for  the bonkers perception of yours. Go tell them  that you think that if  all of them  become subject to the current  abuse of the common sense, if all of them get a chance to be killed in the unholy war, then all Americans suddenly become good and well-informed and stop it. Go, tell them that. See their reaction. Really, " The worst man's enemies are his  family", as the  Bible says.

Larry Ross, founder of Nuclear-Free NZ is planning some protests and US awareness raising projects soon and will send press releases nearer the time. I can't believe the news we get where the doting US population adores Bush, thinks he is a christian and cannot see what he is doing. They will not believe anything bad of him.

From the other side of the planet, I see this dangerous religious fervor where people no longer reason for themselves.

It was not so long ago that the US government was making people believe terrible stories of "Communist brainwashing" I see no difference here, just a different country. Hitler  had a few followers too.

The Palestinian Christian is an endangered species. When the modern state of Israel was established there were about 400000 of us. Two years ago the number was down to 80000. Now it's down to 60000. At that rate, in a few years there will be none of us left. Palestinian Christians within Israel fare little better. On the face of it, their number has grown by 20000 since 1991. But this is misleading, for the census classification 'Christian' includes some 20000 recent non-Arab migrants from the former Soviet Union.

So why are Palestinian Christians abandoning their homeland?

We have lost hope, that's why. We are treated as non-people. Few outside the Middle East even know we exist, and those who do, conveniently forget.

I refer, of course, to the American Religious Right. They see the modern Israel as a harbinger of the Second Coming, at which time Christians will go to Paradise, and all others (presumably including Jews) to Hell. To this end they lend military and moral support to Israel.

Saddam Hussein is in jail.

Unfortunately, maybe the claim that the Iraqi prison torture is like fraternity hazing might be somewhat accurate.considering the fraternity of our president (skull and bones) and how that organization has aided in the complete dismantling of the humanity of its members.
