Thousands of miles separate Uganda and Congo from the Gaza Strip, but these places are connected to Palestine in ways that traditional geopolitical analyses would fail to explain. 

On January 3, it was revealed that the far-right Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu is actively discussing proposals to expel millions of Palestinians to African countries, in exchange for a fixed price.

“I am begging the world: stop all the wars, stop killing people, stop killing babies. War is not the answer. . . .War is not how you fix things. This country, Israel, is going through horror. And I know the mothers in Gaza are going through horror. . . .”

I can only kneel in awe.

Yes, there is sanity in the world – moral sanity – even, and especially, now, as revenge rages in Israel, fed by American armaments. There are courageous voices calling not simply for “peace,” essentially understood by much of the world as nothing more than a ceasefire, but for, oh my God, compassion, healing, love. The “enemy” is as human as we are! And waging war against the enemy guarantees nothing but . . . endless war.

The vast majority of Congress members have refused to call for a ceasefire in Gaza during three months of slaughter by Israel’s military. Capitol Hill remains a friendly place for the Israeli government as it keeps receiving massive arms shipments courtesy of U.S. taxpayers.

We reached 88,000 Palestinian civilian casualties (29,700 killed and 57,800
injured) in Gaza: that is 3.5% of the population of 2.3 million. That is
equivalent to killing 12.5 million US citizens. And 70% of residential
buildings destroyed!!! If that is not genocide/holocaust, we do not know
what is genocide. On Eastern Orthodox Christmas eve (Saturday 6 January),
we still held our weekly briefing on Gaza (69 attended). Since it is three
months since the carpet bombing of Gaza started, I decided to focus less on
analysis and focus on the people of Gaza. 88,000 casualties and 1.9 million
homeless are not numbers; they are/were great people with dreams, and life.
So I selected few pictures and stories (not seen in Western Media) enough
for a half hour presentation and the latter part of it is also inspiring
stories of Gaza. But it was very emotional and twice I could barely speak.
