Dear FreePress:
It would be great if all who agree with your detailed findings would make themselves known. I believe every single outrage you have uncovered. Going to bed on the night of the election (in Berlin, Germany - keep in mind the time difference), as the postive trend began to turn and realizing that the Republican-owned voting machine companies had indeed done their work well, I too am convinced that most Americans' refusal to admit the cleverly, brazenly stolen election spells Doom for Democracy as we have known it in the US. That utterly sick feeling hasn't left since.
Who wants to admit that their once-civilized nation - those who were brought up believing it was civilized - is on par with banana republics the world over? Maybe pride keeps people from seeing the obvious and programs them to rationalizing the facts away. When the core of a person's identity is seamlessly soldered to the name of the country stamped onto their passport, to that speck of land in a country in which they happened to have been born, it is perhaps hard for some to admit such ghastly and omenous defects. Others, who are also proud of the good things America has accomplished in its history and what it used to stand for, are nonetheless capable of smelling rotting meat. Arrogance and brassy pride are two traits that I have - with dismay - witnessed in some fellow countrymen who pass through here. Albeit arrogance and brassy pride can pop up in people of every nationality, it's especially embarassing and painful to realize the consequences of this for American politics and the American reality as it is evolving today. Add to that the dangerously insulated and crazed self-righteousness of the Christian Fundamentalist Industry, for whom the concept of tolerance is satanic, and the prophecies of Margaret Atwood in 1985 may yet come to pass.
The blindness of so many Democrats is the most baffling, their blindness to the brutality of the hardcore Republican operatives.
Please, please keep up your courageous work!! Your honesty and perseverance may pay off yet. It's the only hope we all have.
Your most recent article really said it all. One can only throw up one's hands in desperation... (I wonder if Mr. Conyers is going to be able have any influence in Congress at all? Will he ever garner enough allies there?)
Wishing you all the best, coupled with enormous, untold gratitude for all your hard work, Sherri Jones
