Protest Reports
Protesters gathered in front of the Ohio Statehouse to state their disapproval for Ohio’s new budget that limits a woman’s right to choose.
Two protestors in the pro-choice faction, Kelly and Stephanie, announced that though the budget has already passed, they hoped their demonstration could persuade Governor DeWine to use his powers to “line-item veto some of the egregious things in the Ohio state budget this year.
Specifically, they oppose amendments allowing medical providers to refuse medical treatments to people. One of the main points within the legislation is that a medical professional or institution can refuse to give various treatments based on the fact that the treatment in question will violate their conscience, whether it be morally, religiously, ethically, and so forth.
The protesters also oppose putting up barriers to safe sex education - comprehensive, inclusive, medically accurate sex ed. The protestors pointed out how they felt abstinence-only education is impractical to them, feeling that students should understand how to have safe sex in order to minimize confusion and allow the number of unwanted pregnancies to drop significantly.
10 years ago today on a sunny Saturday hundreds of bikers from all across Ohio gathered in Columbus in a massive show of support for We Are Ohio and our fight against Senate Bill 5. We met on the west side where a local band played songs while the bikers got ready. Media was present and interviewing those who decided to join.
The bikers lined up and respectfully made their way up Broad St. into the center of downtown Columbus where they encircled the Statehouse with signs, t-shirts and the roar of their thunderous machines to stand up for the collective bargaining rights of everyday heroes. They even gave rides to We Are Ohio campaign workers, who hopped on the back of their bikes and joined the caravan.
It was a ride to KILL THE BILL!
Riders from all walks of life joined in. Public and private sector workers and employees, autoworkers, police officers, firefighters, teachers, nurses, pastors, small business owners, Republicans, Democrats and Independents, Moms, Dads, family members and your neighbors.
10 years later, we still remember the incredible accomplishment of so many Ohioans.
Hundreds of people answered the call from Palestine Solidarity Group - Central Ohio and and took to the streets in Columbus in three rallies to stand in solidarity with Palestinians in their struggle for human rights during the 11 days conflict. The gathering on May 21st at Goodale Park was grateful for the ceasefire, but all fully realize that the struggle to end the illegal occupation of the West Bank, the siege of Gaza and the unrelenting daily abuses of Palestinian human rights that provoked hostilities can and must continue.
Hostilities were inflamed by Israel’s plans to evict Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem, the closure of the area around the Damascus gate where Muslims gather during Ramadan, and a brutal attack on Muslims praying at the Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan. From eyewitness reports, when the Israeli police forces entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque, they shut down the emergency medical clinic in the mosque compound and welded the door shut.

(Hill City, MN) Early Friday morning, five water protectors locked themselves into concrete barrels at the entrance of Swatara oil pump station, halting construction of the Line 3 Replacement project. This action was taken with Camp Migiziin recognition of Earth Day, coming a day ahead of “Stop Line 3 x Earth Day”, a march that will be taking place in Duluth, Minnesota. Two of the protestors sat behind a hand painted banner reading “Earth Day Every Day”, while other banners in front of the pump station gate read “No Pipelines on Stolen Land,” “Land Back,” and “Protect the Water.”
Columbus Stand UP! alongside a coalition of central Ohio organizations, have delivered a letter to elected officials demanding answers about the April 7th explosion at the Yenkin-Majestic Paint Corporation. The blast killed one person, injured eight, and spewed ash and other debris over area homes.
“Homes and businesses shook, and residents were breathing in toxic air for days,” the letter reads.“The long-term effects on the water and soil in this predominantly Black neighborhood are still unknown. It has been one week since this fatal incident, and all residents have received from their elected officials are ‘concerns,’ ‘prayers,’ and promises of ‘conversation.’ We are ready to begin the conversation.” See attached for full letter.
The letter has been signed by Columbus Stand Up!, Simply Living, Columbus Socialist Alternative, Freedom BLOC, Ready for 100 Columbus, Students for a Democratic Society, Ohio State University chapter, Ohio Sustainable Business Council, and Our Revolution Central Ohio.
London, Ontario – Members of anti-war organizations World BEYOND War, Labour Against the Arms Trade, and People for Peace London are blocking railway tracks near General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, a London-area company manufacturing light armoured vehicles (LAVs) for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The activists are calling on General Dynamics to end its complicity in the brutal Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen and calling on the Canadian government to end arms exports to Saudi Arabia and expand humanitarian assistance for the people of Yemen.
Today marks the sixth anniversary of the Saudi-led, Western-backed coalition’s intervention in Yemen’s civil war, leading to the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
The Street Medic and the Mayor: Federal protester trial recounts desperation to put out raging fires
A street medic and Mayor Ginther testified Friday, February 26, in the federal protester civil rights suit against the City of Columbus and both recounted a similar storyline: their desperate attempt to put out a raging fire. For the street medic it was the wrath of the Columbus Division of Police inflicted on protesters, and for the Mayor, his effort to rein in what many believe is the long-time rogue Columbus Division of Police.
For the second time in the trial’s first weekGinther was questioned for roughly two hours saying George Floyd’s death was a “modern-day lynching” which reinforced his “commitment to reform the Columbus Division of Police and policing in general.”
