This article makes a true point about American "democracy." But it is not a new point.

John Kennedy won by vote fraud in Illinois and Texas. Lyndan Johnson's Congressional career was littered with vote fraud. Richard J. Daley's machine was expert at twisting elections.

Kerry has always been an uninteresting and rather cowardly politician. Nothing, absolutely nothing, would have been gained by his election.

If Americans want democratic elections, they should seiously limit the role of money in elections. Eliminating the ridiculous 18th century Electoral College from the Constitution would help clarify Presidential elections.

Important too is eliminating all the barriers and special privileges of the two national parties. They dominate politics and effectively suppress much decent and honest political activity. The Democrats today are barely distinguishable from the Republicans.

America's own election problems are colored too by its attitude towards democracy in other lands. Why is there not more outrage about threats towards an cleanly-elected leader in Venezuela? Why is there not more outrage over insane nionsense like bringing democracy to other lands by B-52? These and other activities reveal a strong anti-democratic thread in American society.
