Protest Reports
Since January, 48 states have introduced at least 389 bills that amount to shameful, outright voter suppression -- and many have already become law.
These racist anti-voter bills limit ballot drop boxes and mail-in voting, reduce early voting days and hours, criminalize the distribution of water to voters waiting in long lines, and more.
It’s saddled the Network with huge unsustainable debts and a disappearing listenership while trashing the listeners and staff that sustain it. FOE Pacifica (Failing, Obsolete, Entrenched) has just voted a lucrative long-term contract for at least one of its leaders. Meanwhile it moves to sell at least one of the Network’s beloved, hard-won assets… its station building in Houston.
The FOE Junta has also attacked some of Pacifica’s most popular broadcasters--including Ian Masters at KFPK-Los Angeles-- who dare question the regime on airwaves once reserved for those who fight fearlessly for truth and justice.
The only thing that can save this vital progressive organ is a grassroots pro-democracy uprising that includes YOU!

The man who has led the public campaign to expose and prosecute the Indian Residential School Genocide has been nominated for the Order of Canada.
Kevin Annett, the former United Church minister who first publicized evidence of the deaths of native children in 1995, was named today as “one who, at enormous personal cost for over a quarter century, has compelled Christian Canada to face its shadow and brought not only the truth but hope and life to countless people.” His nomination was made by a group of nineteen Canadians and indigenous elders. (A partial list of nominators is below)
Along with their individual nominations, the group stated in a letter to the Order of Canada Nominations Committee,

On March 19th, climate activists around the world are taking to the street to demand immediate action on climate change. For too long, our leaders have delivered empty promises, while the climate crisis worsens and communities suffer. We have no time to wait.
Sunrise Columbus is calling for concrete action now. Join us at the Ohio State Capitol on March 19th, along with thousands worldwide in coordination with FridaysForFuture, to make your voice heard and demand climate justice.
We demand a greener Columbus, a just and sustainable Ohio, and a national Green New Deal for good jobs and a livable planet for all.

“Be very still, and listen,” Paul DeMain told us. In the act of offering tobacco to the fire, he encouraged us to offer up that which we no longer wished to carry in our bodies, in our lives and in our souls. “But be careful what you ask to throw away, because the grandfathers will decide how that will happen in their own way.”
We were five minutes late for the start of the Full Moon Ceremony at the Line 3 resistance camp in Pallisade, Minn. Fifteen masked and COVID-tested climate activists, we had driven 1600 miles from Maine and Massachusetts. If we hadn’t taken that time-consuming three point turn up I-94 toward Milwaukee we would have gotten there right on time.
But time zones and consumption patterns change, the border between ceremony and sunset is fluid, and the pattern of moonrise on macadam is malleable in the cold North Woods. In the offing, we were welcomed into the growing circle at the pipeline resistance camp with an offering of sweet smoke brushed over our heads and bodies from a brazier of burning sage, calming our jangled nerves and helping us plant our feet firmly again on solid, indeed frozen, ground.
On the January 25th global day of action to end the war on Yemen one of the most dramatic actions that moved the demand for peace into the most media stories was taken by members of World BEYOND War and our allies, including Labour Against the Arms Trade in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
We blocked trucks outside Paddock Transportation International. Paddock ships armored vehicles to Saudi Arabia for the Saudi-led war on Yemen — or at least it tries to!
Paddock’s trucks were delayed and their office flooded with calls. A great deal of attention was brought to the issue. For the first time, a Liberal Member of Parliament broke with the government’s position and publicly supported our demands.

Billboards are going up in Berlin that proclaim “Nuclear Weapons Are Now Illegal. Get Them Out of Germany!”
What can this possibly mean? Nuclear weapons may be unpleasant, but what exactly is newly illegal about them, and what do they have to do with Germany?
Since 1970, under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, most nations have been forbidden to acquire nuclear weapons, and those already possessing them — or at least those party to the treaty, such as the United States — have been obliged to “pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control.”
