Dr. Judson Jeffries

Judson L. Jeffries PhD, MPH, is Professor of African American and African Studies at The Ohio State University. He earned his doctorate in political science at the University of Southern California. He has also studied at Ohio State University, the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, SUNY-Binghamton in upstate New York and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Jeffries’s interests range from police-community relations to race and medicine to revolutionary movements of the 1960s to security studies, to name a few. Over the years, Professor Jeffries has taught and held fellowships at Harvard University, Morehouse College, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, the Army War College, the Center for International Trade and Security at the University of Georgia, Virginia Tech, the RAND Corporation, and Monterey Institute’s Center for Nonproliferation Studies.

Dr. Jeffries has received numerous awards over the years including Faculty Advisor of the Year and the Frank W. Hale Leadership Award (both at OSU) as well as an award from the Montford Point Marine Association.

Dr. Jeffries is the author, co-author, and editor of 12 books, 63 journal articles, and more than 100 newspaper articles. He is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of African American Studies. His latest scholarly work is a two-volume book titled Leading Figures in the History of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., February 2025 by the University Press of Florida. 

Dr. Jeffries is a Phi Beta Kappa and member of Sigma Xi, the national honor society for scientific excellence. For the past five years Brother Jeffries has served as vice chair of the 4th District’s committee on Undergraduate Affairs and Development as well as scholarship chair for the Eta Nu Nu chapter of the illustrious Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The honor of which Brother Jeffries is most proud is being faculty to the Indomitable, Incomparable and Invincible Iota Psi chapter the illustrious Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., at The Ohio State University.
