It goes into all the physical evidence in great detail which makes it hard for me to recommend, as it is easier to read than a textbook but still not an easy read. Absolute best single book summarizing is “JFK and the end of America” by Tim Fleming. But it is out of print and cost me $300 or so. Todays Amazon price, for used paperback, is $150. Best books Jim Douglas “The Unspeakable” and Talbots “Devil’s Chessboard”. Also Destiny Betrayed by Jim DiEugenio are my recommendations. Authors who were first on the scene, writing about this in the 60's: Mae Brussell, Harold Weinberg, Tink Thompson, Mark Lane. Summary of the case: Several books fit this description including Anthony Summers "Conspiracy" and “Not in your lifetime”, and Jim Marrs “Crossfire”, and many others. Shooters and where the shots came from. This part bores me a bit, but Charles Harrelson was one of two grassy knoll shooters, the other was James Files. Mac Wallace was in the book depository. Charles Nicolette was on Dal Tex building. Triangulation of fire. Others have been named but Mike Brownlow believes it to be these four, and I agree with Mike. Autopsy: Gen Curtis Lemay controlled the autopsy, he who bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, firebombed the whole of Japan, and advocated for a nuclear first strike against the Soviets during the Cuban Missile crisis. Many books on this, but Doug Horne served on Assassination Records Review Board (the result of Oliver Stone’s movie) in the 90’s. His 5 volume work “Inside the Assassination Records Review Board” is essential reading to understand the autopsy. Several Doctors are expert on this, Dr. Cyril Wecht, Dr. Gary Aguilar, Jacob Hornberger, Randy Robertson, Charles Crenshaw, Robert McCleland and other Dallas doctors, and many others. CIA: Kennedy fired Allen Dulles and Charles Cabell after the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Dulles orchestrated the assassination. The best source for this claim is The Devils Chessboard, by David Talbot (who founded salon.com back in the day), but there are others. Talbot authored many books on different topics. Philip Agee, (as Arif alluded to), John Marks both wrote about the CIA. Charles Cabel's brother Earl was mayor of Dallas. James Angleton, David Moralas, William Harvey, David Atlee Phillips and so many more. FBI: J Edgar Hoover declared Oswald the shooter before the day was out. He was clearly in the know, and then was the key figure in the cover up that followed. Hoover hated the Kennedy’s and was involved with the mob. Hoover facilitated if not directed MLK assassination. One cannot get a clear picture of the assassination without knowing about Hoover. Lyndon Johnson. As with Hoover, it is clear that he had advanced knowledge. Some persuasive books implicate him in the planning, but there is tenuous proof and the conspirators didn't need him, as they knew his character and knew he would back them after the deed was done. And as Vice President, he did not have that much power. That being said, the men at the top of the food chain in 1963 were Allen Dulles, Gen. Curtis LeMay, and Lyndon Johnson. Mafia: The mafia may have provided shooters, and forced Ruby to kill Oswald, but they had zero ability to orchestrate the cover up that followed. However, they were involved because when the House Select Committee on Assassinations subpoenaed them, both Carlos Marcella and Sam Giancana ended up dead before they could testify. Giancana in spectacular fashion. In those days the CIA was in bed with the Mafia, as is well documented. Secret Service: Vince Palamara “Survivor's Guilt”and another book on Secret Service involvement. Garrison investigation is a story in and of itself. Oswald: Including the alleged trip to Mexico City, his defection to Russia, his welcome back, his employment, his relationship with the white Russian community (DeMorenshilt) and his activist work for Guy Bannister/Clay Shaw. Officer JD Tippit: You may or may not know that Officer JD Tippit was shot that afternoon, and that Oswald was charged with killing him. Oswald was not charged for killing Kennedy that first day. These people have very impressive resumes. What else: J Fletcher Prouty is the author of “The Secret Team” and “JFK, “The CIA, Vietnam and the plot to kill Kenndy. In 1955 Prouty was assigned to coordinate operations between the USAAF and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). For the next nine years he worked for the Pentagon. He was Briefing Officer for the Secretary of Defense (1960-61), Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Chief of Special Operations (1962-63). Oliver Stone, who’s movie JFK resulted in establishment of the Assassination Records Review Board. Much of the information we have today came from those documents, including the Operation Northwoods documents and the CIA memo suggesting that people studying the assassination be referred to as Conspiracy Theorists.
