Last Sunday, the IDF ordered the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza to close the only hospital operating there. The Hospital's director, Husam Abu Safiya, refused the order by saying it was "next to impossible." He then texted Reuters that obeying the order to shut down was "next to impossible" because there were insufficient ambulances to transport 350 patients and their relatives.
Today, Israel Death Forces (IDF) have stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last remaining medical facility in the northern Gaza Strip, setting on fire large sections and ordering hundreds of staff and patients to leave after ordering the closure and evacuation of one of the last hospitals still partly functioning in a besieged area in northern Gaza. The Hospital came under heavy Israeli fire without prior warning, murdering five members of its medical staff, and 50 more people were also slaughtered in an Israeli strike on a building near the hospital. 75 patients forced from the hospital by IDF were taken to unknown locations. Their whereabouts are unknown.
The Associated Press reported that the IDF burned the Hospital and “forced medical personnel and patients to assemble in the hospital yard and remove their clothes amid the winter temperatures.” Online video shows Palestinian men stripped to their underwear being marched through the ruins of northern Gaza. The hospital director has reportedly been arrested for refusing to leave patients without medical care. As of this writing, "The IOF soldiers are inside the hospital now and they are burning it," said Munir al-Bursh, the director of Gaza Health Ministery in a statement.
Palestinians feel helpless and frustrated with the International Community for not stopping this and angry with Israelis who are perpetrating these outrageous crimes. There was no protest by US officials, the American Medical Association AMA), Congress, US mainstream media, the World Health Organization (WHO), or the UN.
Never before in modern times has the world had an army part of a supposedly "democratic" state trying to systematically destroy and close hospitals, giving vital health care to the civilian population anywhere? But when you realize this is all part of a genocidal campaign against the people of Gaza, this is the logical consequence.
What disgusts me is the lack of forceful action by Western governments and international institutions. The silence and passivity suggest a degree of implication in the genocide. Meanwhile, in the U.S. and elsewhere in Europe, Western governments continue to ship bombs to genocidal Israel and shield it from accountability. However, Western nations still feel justified filing criminal charges and charges of "terrorism" against those who rightfully take action and protest against the American Israeli genocide and forced starvation committed in Gaza.
"We hold the world responsible for what is happening and demand accountability for our suffering," said Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hosptial, adding, "It is unacceptable that no one intervenes while we are under attack and the world remains silent."
