Everybody Knows with Dr. Bob and Dan-o
Most Americans probably take the right to travel for granted until this right is lost or curtailed. Passports are, of course, required for most international travel. When our group (Jesselyn Radack, Thomas Drake, Ray McGovern and Coleen Rowley) recently traveled to Moscow to meet with Edward Snowden and present him with the Sam Adams Award for Integrity in Intelligence, we depended upon our fundamental right to travel.
The intelligence whistleblower whose integrity we honored, however, has been deprived of that right. Vindictive U.S. officials revoked the passport of Snowden, whose disclosures have informed and educated the people of the United States and the world about secret surveillance and massive data-gathering that the NSA and other government agencies are engaged in within the U.S. and around the world.
If you’ve already signed the RootsAction petition urging that Snowden’s passport be restored, please forward this email to people you know and urge them to do the same. If you haven’t yet signed the petition, you can add your name by clicking here.

By now, most Americans know that fast-food employees like me can’t make ends meet on the low wages we make. What they might not know is that because employers like McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King refuse to pay us a living wage, the cost of our basic healthcare and basic needs are transferred to taxpayers in the form of public assistance.
The American people shouldn't be forced to underwrite the profits of fast-food companies that refuse to pay workers a fair, living wage. That's why I started my own campaign on CREDOMobilize.com, which allows activists to start their own petitions. My petition, which is to McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Subway, and Papa John's, says the following:

"Citizen Koch" was pulled from a national public television broadcast because of fear of upsetting David Koch, who has been a major donor to public television. But public television stations should answer to viewers like me, not to billionaires like the Koch brothers--and I want to see this important documentary.
Will you join the call for a national broadcast of "Citizen Koch" on Independent Lens?
That's why I signed a petition to WOSU TV 34, Columbus, Oh., which says:
"Koch money shouldn't influence public television programming--we want to see the film "Citizen Koch" aired on PBS."
Will you sign the petition too?

In an outrageous affirmation of “he said, she said” journalism, NBC News’s chief White House correspondent and MSNBC host Chuck Todd said that it’s not the media’s job to report the facts or debunk right-wing spin about Obamacare.
Sign the petition to tell Chuck Todd: Journalists are not stenographers. The news media should report the facts.
On “Morning Joe," Todd made the following remark about Americans’ perceptions about Obamacare:
"But more importantly, [Americans would repeat] stuff that Republicans have successfully messaged against [Obamacare.] They don't repeat the other stuff because they haven't even heard the Democratic message. What I always love is people say, 'Well, it's you folks' fault in the media.' No, it's the President of the United States' fault for not selling it."
Chuck Todd seems to think that “reporting the news” is nothing more than “Democrat said X, Republican said Y.”
The news media is supposed to separate truth from spin and report the facts to the American people.

September 17th, 2013, Frack Free Ohio and local residents will launch a county wide campaign to ban toxic fracking waste in Richland County. This is an exciting project for several reasons. We are widening our successful local efforts of last year, anyone on the planet can participate and a digital campaign tool kit will be made available to other interested parties in the near future. We have decided on a multi-pronged strategy involving the following actions:
1. We will be presenting to the county commissioners at 10:30 am. Jed Thorp of Ohio Sierra Club will speak and then I will outline our desired actions. The primary ask is for Richland County commissioners to pass a resolution in support of Ohio HB #148 and Ohio SB #178, both of which ban toxic fracking waste in Ohio. This includes in-state and out-of-state waste and would effectively: Ban Class 2 injection wells, road brine spreading and treated or 'recycled' flowback waste from being dispersed into treatment plants and waterways.

The neocon war criminals who took the U.S. into an illegal and disastrous war in Iraq are back - and demanding a Syria War.
The Shock and Awe bombing of Baghdad in 2003 that launched the disastrous Iraq War. We say No!
Attacking Syria won't reduce the violence - it will only escalate it with devastating consequences for Syrians and Americans, as we learned so painfully in Iraq.
The U.S. invasion of Iraq killed 100,000 to 600,000 Iraqi civilians. For Americans, the invasion killed 4,486 U.S. troops and wounded 32,223. Of the 2.3 million U.S. troops who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, roughly 20% suffer from PTSD or Traumatic Brain Injury, and hundreds commit suicide each year. For returning troops and their loved ones, the war is never over.
Tell Congress: No Syria War!
Economically, the U.S. absolutely cannot afford war with Syria. The Iraq War cost the U.S. economy $3 trillion and helped cause the Great Recession of 2008, which has not ended.

Mercy for Animals investigations found that Wal-Mart uses pork products from factory farms that put female pigs in gestation crates.
This investigation documented: Pregnant pigs confined to filthy, metal gestation crates so small they are unable to even turn around or lie down comfortably
Workers slamming conscious piglets headfirst into the ground and leaving them to slowly suffer and die
Workers ripping out the testicles and slicing off the tails of piglets without the use of any painkillers
Sick and injured pigs with severe, bleeding wounds or infections left to suffer without veterinary care.
>Tell Walmart executives you won't stand for blatant animal abuse. Urge them to phase out cruel gestation crates.
Post a message on Walmart's Facebook page urging the company to phase out cruel gestation crates.

I'm on my way to Madison, Wisconsin, and I hope you are too, and not just for the beer and (veggie) bratwursts. Here are seven other good reasons:
· The Student Power Convergence, Aug. 1-5 (ending now, but folks sticking around).
· The Democracy Convention, Aug. 7-11.
· The Veterans For Peace Convention, Aug. 7-11.
· Marking the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki together with opponents of war.
· The opening of Dirty Wars with after-screening talks with Jeremy Scahill.
· The daily singing and protesting in the state capitol!
· And the big town hall meeting, Aug. 7, on "Illegal Wars, Torture & Spying: Millions Demanded Bush's Impeachment; Should Obama be Impeached for Continuing Bush's Crimes?"
Activists are converging on Madison, allowing for cross-fertilization and creative planning of future actions for peace and justice in the United States. I recently invited Roshan Bliss of the Student Power Convergence, Ben Manski of Democracy Convention, and Doug Rawlings of Veterans For Peace to discuss these events on my radio show, Talk Nation Radio. Israel's Nuclear Whistle Blower was born in Morocco and he has requested asylum from many states ever since he emerged from 18 years [most all in solitary confinement] in a windowless tomb sized cell on 21 April 2004.
Israel has claimed they can not allow Vanunu the right to leave Israel because he "still has a secret" about their WMD Facility that he has not set foot into since 1985.
The Establishment of Israel's very statehood was contingent upon upholding the UN UNIVERSAL DECLARATION of HUMAN RIGHTS and ALL Member States are obligated to hold ALL other Member States to it.
Article 19 enshrines: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."
Article 13 affirms: "Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state. Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country."

For decades, the federal government has failed to properly manage and dispose of the nation's radioactive nuclear waste. As a result, the waste has remained on site at nuclear power plants across the country. The waste poses significant risks to millions of Americans' health and safety because most of it is stored in overcrowded pools.
Tomorrow, a critical hearing in the Senate could determine whether any progress is made in addressing this unacceptable, avoidable risk—and your senator needs to hear from you.
To better protect Americans, independent experts agree that radioactive waste that has cooled sufficiently should be transferred to concrete and steel dry casks. In fact, in most cases the pools contain much more radiation than the reactors. An accident or terrorist attack resulting in a rapid loss of cooling water from a pool could lead to a fire and the release of a massive quantity of highly radioactive material.
