Recent flooding in the Wheeling, West Virginia area was a heartbreaking reminder of Appalachia’s ongoing struggle against natural disasters. Please consider supporting flood relief efforts here.

The hopeful news — some of the most effective forms of flood mitigation occur naturally. Though much of Appalachia’s rainfall-absorbent forests have been cleared by timbering and mountaintop removal, reforestation is a proven method to combat inundation.
