We are led to believe that history is being made in Israel following the formation of an ideologically diverse government coalition which, for the first time, includes an Arab party, Ra’am, or the United Arab List.

If we are to accept this logic, the leader of Ra’am, Mansour Abbas, is a mover and shaker of history, the same way that Naftali Bennett of the far-right Yamina Party, and Yair Lapid, the supposed ‘centrist’ of Yesh Atid, are also history makers. How bizarre!

Sensational media headlines and hyperboles aside, Israel’s new government was a desperate attempt by Israeli politicians to dislodge Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister, from power. While Lapid is fairly new to Israel’s contentious politics, Bennett and Abbas are opportunists, par excellence. 

We do not need qualified immunity for vigilante cops! We need Qualified Communities to police themselves by living the golden rule. Love has the power to heal and protect people by engaging as thy neighbor’s keeper. Perhaps if people stopped voting for a political party and focused on the content of the politician’s character then we will not have greedy politrickcians capitalizing from human suffering.

It is the recycled ineffective strategies of these leaders that create tragedies in our neighborhoods. Disruptive honesty by law abiding citizens in peaceful demonstrations demanding accountability and transparency of our officials is a constitutional right. Corrupted leaders get re-elected by misinformed voters who belong to their political party or have the same skin color. The Covid 19 pandemic has fueled violence, overdoses, unemployment, poverty, and loss of homes, and shut down of nonprofits.

The Ohio Organizing Collaborative is joining the Ohio Education Association, Ohio Federation of Teachers, and other partners to deliver petition signatures and to raise the urgent need to pass the Fair School Funding Formula.

The COVID-19 pandemic was devastating to so many people and small businesses. When Short North resident, Susie Wroble, lost her job in the fashion industry due to the mass layoffs, she noticed two things: a vacuum in the market for Short North apparel, and a desperate need of help for the small businesses in the area.

“We need to protect these businesses at all cost” Wroble pleaded when remembering that a majority of the businesses in Short North are small and/or family owned. In January when she attended a fundraiser for the Short North Alliance, which supports local small businesses, wearing a sweatshirt of her own design, she not only received compliments, but also inquiries of where one might buy one.

The Our Voices Together Coalition invites you to turn up the heat on anti-protest bills by lighting a fire under Ohio Legislators. Every Tuesday, we will come together as a community, train up, listen to music, and enjoy each other’s company as we take action together.

This coming “Turn Up Tuesday,” we will be emailing legislators and letting them know what we think about H.B. 109, H.B. 22, and S.B. 41. This is a work session and we’ll give helpful tips. Come ready to type and we’ll help you do the rest.
