Taken aback by growing employee resistance and turnover, Amazon recently suffered the embarrassment of backing away from its intention to force all staff to return to the office five days a week, instead allowing them to work a hybrid schedule. Apple’s plan to force its staff back to the office has caused substantial internal opposition and churn.

Pride Month is to celebrate and uplift the LGBTQ+ community, but in recent years, it has become filled with businesses and corporate sponsors who claim to stand in support of equality, but do not truly understand what our communities need. Do they, along with allies, know how to show up for LGBTQ+ liberation in a way that is not white-washed rainbow capitalism?

Come listen to LGBTQ+ community organizers and leaders on the struggles they’ve faced, what Pride Month means to them, and what we actually need to be doing to improve the lives and conditions of the LGBTQ+ people that we are supposed to be protecting and uplifting.

In lieu of tickets, we ask that each attendee make a small donation to the Trans Lifeline [translifeline.org].

Please RSVP in advance and recognize that this is a space for LGBTQ+ voices and experiences, but allies are encouraged to attend and to learn more.

Mexico once had a problem with a local provincial government promoting illegal immigration from the United States into Mexico in order to engage in the illegal slavery of illegally trafficked people. The locality involved was called Texas. For years, Mexico let Texas get away with its lawlessness and immorality, including not paying taxes, and including killing Mexican soldiers. Then it sent an army to lay down the law. Texans warned each other that soldiers were coming “to give liberty to our slaves, and to make slaves of ourselves” (meaning to end the actual enslavement of anyone and to require that people abide by laws and pay taxes).

Medical marijuana patients with conditions that are tricky to treat may wonder: If I know a cannabis strain works for me, why can’t I grow it myself at home? Home-growing of cannabis is a hotly-debated topic across the country. Especially in states like Ohio where medical marijuana can only be purchased from state dispensaries, home-growing could provide a much-needed alternative for many patients.

As more patients enter medical marijuana programs, so does the need for specialty cannabis cultivated for particular medicinal properties. Certain strains, cannabinoid combinations, and terpene profiles have shown to possess healing properties that might not be accessible in forms you find in your local dispensary. Across the U.S. in states where looser laws allow it, home-growers have filled in the gaps to become an integral part of the cannabis supply chain.

Where Is Home-Growing of Cannabis Legal?

Join us in honoring this day through action, prayer, and study.

During the crisis of the past year, refugees experienced heightened vulnerability and challenges when many countries largely closed their doors to them, including the United States. Now, as the United States begins to recover from the pandemic, it is time to push for the restoration of the United States refugee resettlement and asylum systems. Here are some resources for action, prayer, and study for World Refugee Day 2021.

In that “the show must go on” spirit, live theater is returning to Los Angeles’ stages. On what used to be its adjoining parking lot, The Fountain Theatre has built an impressive Outdoor Stage, an open air, socially distanced 99-seater. So, to reverse Joni Mitchell’s admonishment in “Big Yellow Taxi”: “They paved a parking lot, And put up a playhouse.” Along with the excitement of seeing old familiar faces who’d survived the plague year-plus, your humble scribe looked forward to reviewing his first play, in person, in about 15 months.
