Currently, we are facing the most serious federal threat to states' abilities to set standards for a more humane, sustainable, and safe food system. You may have heard of the "EATS Act"; the newest iteration is the so-called "Save Our Bacon Act" which is trying to strip states' rights to regulate agriculture sales and trade and protect animals, farmers, and consumers. This legislation would also overturn current incredible animal welfare laws such as Prop 12 in California.

There is currently a Democrat-specific letter circulating the House that we are asking Democrat Reps to sign. The letter urges the House Agriculture Committee to reject any provision in the Farm Bill that would override state-level standards for certain agricultural products. It currently has over 160 signatures from House Democrats

Turnstile’s singer Brenden Yates singer thanked Columbus for Turnstile’s bassist Franz
Lyons towards the finale of Turnstile’s Kemba live outdoor show.

Turnstile’s set in front of 5,200 people under the heavens started with the embracing ambiance
of Never Enough which thundered once the guitars, and drums kicked in. Kids moshed with a collective exuberance after the introduction pronounced allure of hardcore’s promise.

Turnstile is from Baltimore.
Franz is from Columbus.

I’d watched Turnstile’s last Columbus show in front of a sold-out Kemba indoor show of 2,300 people in 2022. Turnstile doubled their Columbus audience and then some. Kemba’s new attendees included people who knew Franz but weren’t familiar with Turnstile’s music.

LOD Embassy Boardshop Columbus was now accompanied by Cafe Bourbon Street alumni circa 2009, Old Town East skateboarding, and over 5000 thousand teenagers. Walking around Turnstile show was  kinda like Comfest meets Camp Flog.

The Westerville Queer Collective has opened submissions for their second volume of gINKgo, a zine centered on Queer and Trans experiences. This upcoming volume has the optional theme of “Resistance, Resilience, Utopia” and is accepting submissions online up through February 14th, 2026. We accept all forms of visual and written creations such as paintings, poetry, essays, digital art, short stories, etc. There is also an optional cover competition for visual creations. 

Each summer the new volume is printed and is handed out to contributors and around the community of Westerville, Ohio. gINKgo works to uplift and empower the realities of LGBTQ+ people and their stories. Any person who is LGBTQ+ or a supporter can submit to gINKgo; no age or skill requirement, no submission payment needed.

Bicentennial Park & Ohio Statehouse

Bill 1 (HB1) and Senate Bill 88 (SB88), currently under consideration in the Ohio General Assembly, would ban individuals and businesses from owning property within a 25-mile radius of “critical infrastructure” based on national origin.

On September 27, concerned Ohioans will rally at Bicentennial Park and march to the Ohio State House to speak out against HB1 and SB88 in defense of our civil liberties, property rights, and constitutional protections.

In mid-September, the Ohio House of Representatives returned from summer break, hearing committees again for the first time. While their immediate focus will likely be congressional redistricting and various property tax reform proposals, we're keeping a watchful eye out for updates on several harmful anti-LGBTQ+ bills, including: 

The Ohio Senate will also be back from recess shortly, and in both chambers we're paying close attention to rumors about potential veto overrides of the anti-LGBTQ+ measures Governor DeWine struck from the budget in June.

ICE’s television ad enticing Central Ohio law enforcement with a $50,000 sign-on bonus claims officers in sanctuary cities have been “forced to stand down.” Columbus, as most everyone knows, is a sanctuary city even if no formal declaration was ever made. But Columbus, that has the most immigrants per capita in Ohio, is in a red state. And you don’t have to be Cesar Chavez to realize what side most of the Columbus police are on.

Back in 2017, Mayor Ginther ordered Columbus police to never ask a person’s immigration status or apprehend people if suspected of being an immigrant unless ordered by a court. But a question lingers in the minds of activists: Have some Columbus police and Franklin County deputies been surreptitiously helping Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by calling its snitch line and thus breaking city law?
