Attempt to Reverse 1976 Moratorium

Despite multiple earthquake faults surrounding the three California nuclear reactor coastal sites harboring huge amounts of radioactive waste in tsunami zones, with no plan to deal with the tons of waste, a bill has been introduced in the state legislature to increase nuclear use in our state. This also despite the devastating fires that occur regularly in California increasing the already staggering risks of nuclear reactors and the lethal long lived waste they produce.

Assemblymember Dr. Juaquin Arambula (D - Fresno) with main co-sponsors Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R - Orange) and Assemblymember Josh Hoover (R- Sacramento) introduced AB 305 . It would overturn California’s longstanding nuclear moratorium to allow for the construction of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

I need some help here. The Trump presidency and the “America only” future he’s hawking to the public like the world’s most arrogant snake-oil salesman feels beyond my ability to address right now, even though I consider doing so my life’s work.

But sometimes the news of the day simply feels too absurd, too strange, to seriously address, like Trump’s comment the other day as he sat next to Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House: “You know how I feel about the Gaza Strip. I think it’s an incredible piece of important real estate.”

Many Americans will be relieved to learn that US Embassy employees and their families in China can no longer have “romantic or sexual relations” with local Chinese. It is certainly a move long past due which will keep us safer together with those 125% tariffs that we will be hitting the Chinks with. But beyond that good news, it has been another interesting week in the fantasy world created and sustained by President Donald J Trump. This week included a not-so-surprise visit by the Chosen Lord of the Universe Benjamin Netanyahu, ruler of a pathetic little country called Israel, which is growing bigger as, with American support, it absorbs all of its neighbors one at a time.

Harvey's Comment in LA Times:

These Olympics must also be 100% solar/wind/geothermal powered & the Diablo Canyon reactors must be shut before they begin.

the Games are threatened by potential catastrophe from the continued operation of these two uninsured, obsolete nukes surrounded at Avila Beach by earthquake faults capable of blanketing the region with lethal Chernobyl-scale radioactive clouds.

debate still rages over how much radiation Fukushima poured into Tokyo in 2011-21; we must not allow that possibility for Los Angeles in 2028 & beyond.

we have just suffered horrific fires caused at least in part by a faulty central-powered utility system that must be replaced by micro-grid based renewables. rooftop solar is the answer for Los Angeles to have a cheap, safe, clean power system, and it must happen prior to the Olympics.

We are so quick to complain when people do things wrong bu so slow to say thank you when people do amazing work. So, I just want to say that I am a 74-year-old disabled veteran. Last summer, I took part in a pro-Gaza rally in Columbus, Ohio. A police officer with Columbus Police Department (CPD), who is almost my age, came to me as I was feeling dizzy and ready to pass out. He asked me, "Are you okay, Sir?" to which I said, "I am not!" He suddenly shouted to a waitress in a nearby restaurant on the Short North part of the city to give him a glass of water. Upon drinking the water, I felt a little better. He then walked along my side for a few minutes to make sure I was fine.

This note is a belated thank you to Sergeant Peters and how grateful I am. I have run into him in subsequent rallies in Columbus in support of Palestine in which he was assigned security details. Sgt. Peters was the first to meet and greet me and asked how I was doing. He is really someone who you should know.

That exactly what is going above and beyond the call of duty means. It is putting the extra effort.
Solar panels on roof

Trump Tariffs

It's becoming increasingly clear that the new Trump tariffs will significantly impact the solar industry, adding additional tariffs on top of the already 50 percent level that are assessed against many of the leading solar panel exporting countries.

Preliminary calculations by solar.com anticipate a net 10 cents per watt average increase to the cost of solar hardware. There's currently a significant inventory of solar panels that have been warehoused in anticipation of these tariffs, so the impact on the industry may not be immediately felt.

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, there's currently about 50 gigawatts of solar panel manufacturing capacity here in the US, which is theoretically enough to meet domestic demand for solar panels.

However, the subcomponents of those panels, such as the silicon and the metal for the framing, will be subject to the Trump tariffs.
